I found The Food and Mood Handbook very useful when I was off work and have just got it out of the library again. It was sensible and honest, it doesn't promise any quick fixes but explains what your looking for if you wanted to keep a food diary for example.

I didn't go for the full blown food diary, or even working out what trigger foods might be for me. Just knowing more about the what's and why of my cravings, energy levels, lack of apetite and that kind of thing, was enough info to help me out at that time.

Now I think I might have to be a bit more disciplined about it!

Thanks all, Pippi you should go over to MGs thread, its right up your street and we could do with your energy there.

EH, you are so right eating for me is about health. Have no need to lose/gain weight but I do notice a difference when I am lazy about it.

Now I would like to ask, given the day that I am having, if somebody can stop the merry go round as I want to get off!!!
Nic, I will look that one up. Having read your diary I saw so much of myself in what you were saying about eating. I do need to be disciplined to even bother to eat sometimes let alone eat healthily. Will get there though.

Yikes, just checked my bank account and the dd for electric has gone up by £100. Hadnt had any letters (bill in Mr Cs name) so rang them. Turns out that they have been doing paperless bills for 12 months and we havent been paying enough........ now have a very big bill to pay off so they adjusted it. Mr C reckons he didnt know that he had changed to paperless bills and hadnt spotted anything in his emails. I have been asking him to ring them with a meter reading as they wont speak to me as bill in his name. Thats what I get for leaving him to sort it. It drives me nuts not being in control because if I was this wouldnt have happened. Moral of the story? Take control, keep control, dont rely on anybody but myself................

Oh dear Cherisong... :( I sympathise entirely as we had a court summons for not paying the council tax this morning... and when I dared to suggest a direct debit (which I have suggested several times over the course of several years) the conversation was stopped as it made him feel like a 'useless worm'.... Deep breaths! I'm slowly working my name onto things, at least as a contact, but unfortunately that involves some engagement on his part too first, which is all too difficult....

On a cheerier note - that goals list looks marvellous! :T Here's to marching through them all! :j
  • to the electric.

I got a court summons last month for CT - no reminders at all. Luckily I remembered and had paid it online when the summons was just being issued in the post so they removed the summons and the charge - unlike it says on the letter, they can stop it from going to court.

Our letter says they'll stop it from going to court if we pay it - which we (or rather, not me :rotfl:) will be doing tomorrow... We didn't have a reminder either I don't think! (although apparently we had the original bill)

Oh dear ladies, I was once actually taken to court for not paying council tax bill, the timeline goes like this.
    • bought house march
    • contacted council end of march asked for bill
    • contacted council in april, may and june asking for bills
    • wrote to them in august telling them that I would really like to pay
    • wrote in September and sent a cheque with a guestimate for what I owed, received an acknowledgement
    • checked account cheque not cashed
    • went on a 2 week holiday at end of October
    • arrived home from holiday to a bill, a reminder to pay the bill, a final reminder, a court summons with date at end of November
    • Went to court on the day, took copies of all letters, copy of the cheque I had posted and a documented list of all the people I had spoken to and the dates that the calls took place
    • copy of the bank statement showing that the cheques was cashed the day before the court summons was issued!
What can I say I used to be anal (now I am just slightly anal).
The magistrate wiped the floor with the council person. Since then I refuse to set up direct debits with the council for anything.

I have had a long chat with Mr C and he is fully on board for sorting it out.

And today continues. Just had a knock on the door and it was TV licensing. I didnt answer because I was on the phone. There is now one of their famous letters on the kitchen table which says something to the effect that because I havent replied to their letters telling me to buy a tv licence, I havent responded to their callers at the door then they will be considering a court summons. How can I avoid this it says....... buy a tv licence or tell them I dont need a tv licence. There has been no tv at this address for 8 years. We tell them this everytime we get a letter. When I moved in here I cancelled my tv licence for my previous property and asked for a refund. I had been paying it for 20 years out of my account. Never realised that it was in ex OH name. Would they pay me back the amount that I had overpaid NO because the actual licence wasnt in my name. They went so far as to tell me that I had been watching the tv illegally as the name on the iicence is what matters not the address. So what am I going to do with the letter that currently sits on the kitchen table? Erm compost it perhaps?

    Sorry rant over

  • Cheery, thats what my letter said - its standard and if you google it you cant find any different, but thats what they ca do. So give them a call!

Cheri, the TV licencing are downright bullies aren't they. We have Sky (i know, I'll get a bashing on here from some people!) and I begrudge the TV licence as everyone else makes brilliant programmes without that extra bit the bbc need . Who cares if they have adverts! I sky plus and fast forward through them :D
