Heartbroken-my cat is missing

She's been gone since around 9pm Monday evening, I let her out for a quick walk around the garden as usual.

She's indoors mostly, and when she does go out it's never longer than 30 mins or so.

Sat up for hours waiting for her but no sign of her.

I phoned the microchip database people and they have alerted local wardens, rang the vets and asked the neighbours.

I feel so sad, I just keep walking around looking and calling. So lost without her.

She must be so hungry, cold, scared? lost somewhere?

So many questions, and so worried about my princess.

  • It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that she is stuck in someone's shed somewhere so knock on neighbours doors and ask.
Phone the council to check a dead cat hasn't been picked up this week. It's horrible and heart-stopping but it has to be done.
Phone all the rescue homes in your area and, if necessary, go and check physically that she hasn't been handed in.
Put laminated posters tied with cable ties around lampposts.
Go out at night when it's quiet and call her as there is more chance of her hearing you without traffic/people noises etc.
My boy went missing for SEVEN WEEKS so I know exactly what you're going through.
Don't lose heart, lost cats are mostly found.

I'm so sorry for your pain, if it is any consolation the vast majority of people who post on there about their missing pets find that they turn up eventually.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
  • Hi

Sorry to hear that your beloved cat has gone missing :( My kitten alfie went missing on boxing day at 2 o'clock in the morning and went missing for 26hrs! I like you was worried sick and really did fear the worst. Then lo and behold he strolled back in 26 hrs later starving hungry and very pleased to see us. I cannot tell you the joy i felt when he came back. Maybe she has gone exploring and is locked in someones garage or shed. Might be a good idea to ask around your neighbourhood and put a pic of her in the local petshop window. I know exactly how you feel, but please don't give up hope as i'm sure she will be ok.

Please let us know when she comes back thanks x

Oh you poor thing I do feel for you but please don't give up as so many people's cats go missing and do come home. My cat is nearly 17 now but in his younger days went missing a few times, once for 4 days but just as I had rung round the RSPCA, local vets etc he came strolling in through the cat flap. He was very hungry and looked a bit grubby so I think perhaps he got stuck in a shed or garage.

If you search through these forums there are lots of tips about going about finding missing cats including emptying your hoover bag around the garden etc also if you read most of the thread about people whose cats are missing nearly all of them turned up eventually. I personally have friends whose cats have gone missing for up to 6 weeks but have come home in the end.

Good luck and big hugs xxxx

Oh, my love, I totally sympathise. When my cat went off for three hours (unheard of), she didn't respond to biscuits, treats or calling. I was knocking on my neighbours' doors, and starting making bargains with God (I told him I didn't care if I never lost weight as long as he brought my cat back!).

Go out with biscuits / treats / something that she responds to and call around the streets. Write notes and post through your neighbours' doors, asking even for sightings of her.

Hopefully she will come in very soon, but has just found herself shut up somewhere. Don't forget to knock on your neighbours door and insist on them checking their sheds whilst you're there so you know they've looked.

    Let us know, won't you?

    Hi Op

Don't lose heart, my cat went missing twice this year, the second time for 20 days and we'd more or less given up hope. I was putting out food and water for her in case she came back at night and so for a while the neighbourhood cats had a good feed. She actually came back whiile we were on holiday but luckily I had asked someone to come over once a day to carry on the food and water routine and she returned halfway through their week. It made my holiday when I got the call to say she had come back. :-)

However saying this the post above is great advice. If she is missing a while it is a good idea to get people to check sheds etc as my cat has also done overnighters in both my shed and my car. Luckily I use the car alot so she wasn't locked in there in the searing heat of summer when it happened.

Sorry for not coming back sooner, it's been a day and a half!

    However.......GUESS WHO'S BACK!!

7am today, I open the back door and there she was sitting as bold as brass! Walked straight passed me and sat at her feeding mat staring at the empty bowl.

5 minutes later, the food is history and she's rolling around on the kitchen floor calling for love and cuddles:D

I was sobbing, asking her over and over where she had been....no answer was the stern reply!

She was as clean as a whistle, unharmed save for a tiny bit of fur missing from one front paw. Strangely enough she was bone dry and as it had been raining overnight I can only assume she either took shelter of her own accord or was trapped somewhere very dry.

I'm so relieved she is back and haven't been able to bring myself to let her out today-though to be honest she has shown no interest until this evening and slept from 9am-about 3pm!!!

I think I am going to discourage the evening trips to the garden until starts getting darker a bit later in the day, that way if she poodles off during the day I have all day to look for her. The nights were the worst when she was gone.

Lastly I just wanted to say thanks for all your support, advice and kind wishes. I did try the hoover bag tip and I don't know if it worked or not but she did come back the morning after I left the dirt out so maybe it did!

A big thanks from me and Mrs Tibbs. Just waiting fir my heart rate to return to normal now!
