  • Back home from an evening away with the other half and found I've hit the £2,000 mark in my challenge!

Chances of making another £3k before 24th December? Slim to non-existant, but it's been a great motivator.

    Well done on the 2/5ths!
Is your ready made stuff selling? I'm thinking people may prefer that to bits'n'bobs for Xmas presents. Anyone making presents themselves would be stocked up. Except we have a whole four weeks to go yet.

BTW, any of that profit? For a fat juicy turkey?

Myself I'm not even making enough to cover my Ebay fees! Grrr. And I wanted to pay for the ski trip (only way hubby agreed to go! whoops!). I'm losing all faith in my abilities.
It's all such quality stuff as well! :rotfl:
    :wall:
  • Out of the ready-made stuff so far, I've got 1 with a bid and 2 others with watchers, otherwise zip. Either it's the new seller thing, or I'm just not that good an earring maker!

Let's see, profits...well, I've spent £1.5k on stock, but a lot of that was on introducing new lines and getting my stock levels back up to where I know they have to be for me to not run out of things, so I've sold about £900-worth of it and the rest is listed. Ebay fees for the period £380, Paypal about £95, postage £155, packaging - gods, no idea, I buy in bulk, so it's 6p a jiffy bag - probably £30.

    So a rough P&L:

    Sales: £2048

    Less:
    Stock: £900
    eBay fees: £380
    Paypal fees: £95
    Postage: £155
    Packaging: £30

    Subtotal for costs: £1560

    Total profit: £488

Which, amazingly, after I've put 25% aside for tax and NI, does actually cover my living expenses for the 7 weeks it covers! :T :T :T :T :T
  • well done..... and good luck for the next few weeks.. hope you meet yuor target.....

i am hoping to turn my hobby into a business in the new year......and ebay will be one of the main selling places for me....

kriss_boy.......sounds as though you know your stuff there is a guy near where i live..... and he makes fantastic guitars..... bassed on the les paul gold top etc....

as for importing guitars...i bought my hubby an ernie ball limited adition bass.... which i could not import/buy directly, i had to buy it via a music shop which dealt with a registered buyer/importer with ernie ball.. which prob.. hiked the price up... only 150 made... so still pleased though....at an auction lose by i have seen the old woolworths specials so to speak go for silly money....

i love reading this thread.... giving me the kick up the butt that i need to try and turn my hobby into a business....

look forward to seeing how you do...

  • This morning's update - nearly at £1500 for the month, which is my all-bills-are-paid figure

And out of the four pairs of earrings I listed last Sunday, at 99p each, 3 lots have sold :T - 1 for the starting price and the other two pairs for £2.42 each :j :j :j :j

OK, it's not a fortune, but it's something I can do in a spare 10 minutes that's profitable!

Ive tried emailing the bidders and Ill email the winner. The guitar pictured is a copy and is not the real thingy. Finish doesnt tie in with those produced in 96. headstock silkscreen isnt correct. Everything about it. arghgh.

I feel a moral obligation to email people. I see this stuff everyday. I hinted at ebay paying me to warn people but got know where.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on - treat as you wish to be treated.
  • I just logged out of my main selling ID to go to my other one, when something caught my eye on the interim page.

On that page, there's a blue bar with Continue Shopping on eBay on it, and then underneath there's a yellow bar with Popular eBay Shop, which has links to shops that are frequently saved in Favourites by eBay members.

My shop was one of the links!!!!!

I know they're probably picked at random out of a huge list, but that's absolutely made my day!

Well Ive come out of retirement so to speak :D

Hadnt bought a guitar since Januray or so, then at the the weekend I spotted two I just couldnt refuse. I dont know why but guitars sell cheaper at xmas in the states. Maybe more are listed and the prices are driven down but I just got two of a particular guitar, both approx $1500 each

One was a plain custom which should been about $1800 and the other shoulda been well over $2000 so I got major bargins. BOTH were USA shipping only but I bought them now and sweet talked the sellers later :T

Both of those will be delivered to by door for under a grand!! And they would get at least £1200 on the UK ebay, probably nearer £1500 each.

Im not selling them one because I no longer trade :A

Sound like someone is selling enough to be noticed!
What's it like seeing your name in lights?

Pretty blooming well good, I'll tell you that

Also feels pretty good that I'm less than £100 from the half way point of my challenge :T
