You're not in arrears.

You have always paid beyond the point at which you are watching.

You are not going to get monthly DD payments, interest free without some give and take.

SKY manage it.

Your driving license is paid in advance, your car tax is paid in advance, any insurance is usually paid in advance (if paid by DD there is a built in interest payment and you at least paid one month in advance). With your bank loan you paid interest for that first year of no payments.

I'm sure they'd be more than happily take an annual payment, in advance, if you offered it.

You appear to be in utter and total confusion - Sky subscriptions are monthly subscriptions (try actually reading their terms and conditions) - they are NOT annual subscriptions paid off monthly (even what people refer to as a 12 month contract is in fact a 12 month minimum term contract on a monthly subscription. Where pray tell is the interest free in that? The TV license is for a whole 12 months in advance

You can indeed pay 12 months into your account in advance from which they will deduct your monthly payments. However they view such accounts with a great deal of suspicion because this was the favourite way of payment for those fraudulently using the viewing cards outside the UK so not exactly happily.
