TV Licensing - Switch to DD and Pay a WHOLE YEAR in Six Months!

At least the licence fee is fixed until 2016

Have you read the thread? You can cancel the DD after 6 months payments (at about £20 each) have been taken then start it up again next year. Then they will never have any money in advance and will be getting some payment later than when it would have been otherwise due.
You also have the option of paying quarterly in advance in return for a fee.
A bit rude. Yes I read the thread. Did you read my post? My question for tvlicensing was WHY they do this. I wasn't asking for a work-around.tvlicensing wrote:As the fee is usually due in full on the first day of the licence we are helping our customers to spread the cost. Your payments will be £24.25 for the first six months.
You then pay for future licences in twelve monthly payments, six payments before the licence runs out and six after. As we offer six of the twelve payments in arrears, the six advance payments ensure there is no adverse effect on cash flow. Your first payment will be £12.18 followed by payments of £12.12, until the renewal of your licence when you will receive a new personal payment plan.
This is unethical in my book. I'd write to my mp but state tv, bbc, are in league with parliament so I doubt I'd get anywhere.0 -

So I’ll assume that me taking 6 months in advance on rent, then asking to always be 3 months ahead was a con? (They asked for this btw, I’ve only agreed to it)
I’d rather pay equal instalments each month, as it builds up my Avios nicely instead of various chunks and ensures that there’s money there if things go wrong. We lease 3 cars, have our mobile phones on contract etc etc etc. for the same reason.

Because the time you are in credit funds the time you are in arrears. Why should you get interest free credit to pay monthly when others pay an annual fee up front? If you don't like being in credit with them half of the year and in arrears the rest then pay quarterly with the interest charge added on.A bit rude. Yes I read the thread. Did you read my post? hi, i have also found this concept hard to get my head around... and whichever way you look at it you will always have paid 6 months more than everyone else if you pay by direct debit. Can I point out to davemurgatroyd, that although I see your logic... in 13 months you pay £285 if doing up front, or £216 roundabout if you do dd - you are forgetting that for the next 11 months the dd people are continuing to pay 12 per month so if you look at it over 2 years or 24 months, up front people have paid £285 (the cost for 2 years licence) and dd people have paid £357 (cost for 2.5 years) so yes I see that up front you are paying 12 months ahead, but you are paying for what you are using... dd people are paying for more than what they are using and they try to advertise this as helping spreading the cost (why should we get interest free credit) because that is what they are supposedly offering and its up to you if you want to pay in one lump sum. I guess you can argue from both sides, depending on which month you take the figures, but at the end of the day the people paying up front in full are only paying for what they are going to use, dd people have always paid for six months extra (assuming you never cancel your licence). Sorry if I have got this totally wrong but I just can't see it any other way.0

You have basically 3 choices (4 with new weekly plan which I haven't looked at yet)hi, i have also found this concept hard to get my head around... and whichever way you look at it you will always have paid 6 months more than everyone else if you pay by direct debit. 1 Pay full fee up front - zero interest but varying from 12 months in credit down to zero.
2 Pay monthly - zero interest but varying from 6months in credit to six months in arrears
3 Pay quarterly - interest charged but varing from 3 months in credit down to zero
What could be simpler than that. You are not going to get monthly DD payments, interest free without some give and take.0 -
I think we pay quarterly and I confess I didn't know we were charged interest on it. It expires this month and I know that DH has had a letter about it, I will have to change to a different payment plan before they put us on quarterly again.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

1% over payments on cc 3.5/100 (March 2014)0 -
Then you could jump 25% when BBC Wordwide the channels you cant access needs cash as the Commonwealth office pulled funding & past it to us UK'ers ! NICE Tory government !! SIT !!!At least the licence fee is fixed until 2016
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

My first year's Council Tax wasn't taken in 6 months
Nor was my first year's water bill.
Nor was my first year's Car Insurance.
Nor was my first year of payments, on my bank loan.0 -

How can it be "in arrears" when it covers a time period that hasn't been reached yet :huh:0
