They were brilliant - cheap but very effective. I'm extremely impressed with Aldi's quality. I cleaned them up afterwards but I'm not sure how to stop them rusting. I read somewhere that oil is meant to help so I rubbed some olive oil on them
. I'll probably find that that will make them rust.
After that the dog was giving me 'the eye' so I took him for a nice long walk and where did that day go? Wow, I need to be retired. Getting anything done with the pooch around is turning out to be mission impossible. I was meaning to do the floors in my bedroom today but, well. Sunday Pooch and I went on a long walk with some friends. Surbiton, along the Thames and a few side roads until we pulled off at Hammersmith - 15 miles of the walk in total, plus a bit more from the rest of the walking during the day. So obviously long walks are no problem for Dante.
Other than lunch and drink at The Prince's Head in Richmond (fabulous food) it was another cheap day as transport was free. So, along with Saturday which was just some shopping and not expensive, it was a low cost weekend.
By the time I got back I was too tired to do anything on the house which wasn't so great (lazy!) but I think it was a good dog bonding day.
Back at work today and the pooch can hopefully rest a lot today and recover. Dog obedience tonight so we'll see how that goes. He's all hormonal atm - other dogs are going for him (I had to pick him up at one point yesterday because a big black dog was really having a go) and he was determined to hump my leg yesterday - took a lot to discourage him. My dog walker has also said that he was very agressive and barking a lot today which is a change from yesterday when he was very well behaved, it was other dogs who took exception to him, no doubt because of how he was smelling to them. Fortunately my dog walker is very good with dogs and won't let him get away with anything. Another two weeks until his appointment at the vets...Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
It will be another 'no spend day on food' today so I'm starting the week out well
.
I have however just purchased a whole lot of LED lights online which I hope will arrive tomorrow in time for my electrician. I got a good deal at Simply LED as they had 5 packs for half price (£15) because they were a discontinued line. I was also supposed to get a 10% discount but it didn't track, possibly because what I was buying was already 50% off.
Anyway I bought 3 packs and including VAT and delivery charge it is still a little less than £50 for the 15 bulbs. £47.96 to be precise which works out at £3.20 per bulb. Bargain!
I need 13 for my 8 & 5 chandelier so that will leave me 2 left over for replacements or if can put them in another couple of places in my flat. They have a 3 year warranty so I'm hoping they will last for ages before they need replacing.Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
I've just made an appointment with HSBC to go in next Tuesday and see about remortgaging my flat. With a combination of OP's and the flat rising in value I am now at the coveted 50% LTV and that qualifies me for the 2.39% tracker - no fees
. I will need to have a current account with them so I'll need to check that that doesn't cost and I don't think I have redemption fees for closing my other two mortgages. It's with the same bank so if they do I might be able to waive them? Probably not
I'll keep my diary posted!Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
I've had a bit of a 'mare on the MSE front these last few days. Firstly the LED lights that I bought turned out to be the wrong sort - they were bayonet and I need screw ins. So, not only were they more expensive (by a lot) I also have had to pay postage for sending the first batch back. £8
Also pooch appears to be turning his nose up at his kibble and that was the HUGE bag I bought for him. I'm not giving up, I'll keep trying. But the trouble is he's been a bit funny since switching him. I have heard it can take a while to settle down but he definitely has a case of the runs at the moment. In the morning I can hear his stomach gurgling which is never a good sign with any animal with a digestive track! I'll cut out all food other than his kibble for now (he's put on a bit of weight since I got him so there's no danger of him starving to death just yet) and see if hunger drives him back to his James Wellbeloved. It's very expensive dog food and meant to be very good stuff so I'd hate to have to give it away. Although I'd give it to a shelter or something so it wouldn't go to waste.
If he doesn't clear up I'll have to take him to the vet with a stool sample and vomit sample (he is munching grass and throwing up a bit as well).
So, not going so well right now...Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
On a slightly more cheery note, I haven't bought brekie/lunch/dinner at all this week, so that's another £25 off the mortgage! I'd update my signature but there seems to currently be a problem with the site.

Try chicken and rice for a couple of days - I just boil the rice and chuck in some chicken strips towards the end. Scrambled egg is supposed to bind too.

Good luck
Most of the websites recommended that or pumpkin but oddly enough it looks like rice is what was causing the issue. Maybe. It's diffiuclt to really be sure.
In the end I stopped his food for 12 hours and then put down the kibble again, that was devoured and he's been fine since. I tried a tablespoon of rice the other night as a bit of a test and it straight away started his flatulence back up. So, even if it's only for the sake of my nose I'll be steering well clear :rotfl:Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -

Much better day today
. Firstly I went to HSBC and had my request for a new rate of 2.4% approved. That is for both mortgages because apparently they aren't able to consolidate the two mortgages into one big mortgage even though they are now on the same rate and I got them at the same time. Weird - go figure.
Never mind - that means I will just keep paying off my little £8k one and once that is gone I can focus on what I have left.
I also renewed my yearly season ticket today - it's through work so I just get the monthly charge taken out of my pay packet. It works out at two months free travel over buying it monthly so that's great. As an added bonus you also get a gold travel card when you buy a yearly so that's 33% discount for me and up to 3 other people on train tickets.
I had another no spend day on food (I'm really getting the hang of those!) and I also picked up 20p on the way back from buying my season ticket :rotfl:.
Tonight I will attempt to buy my light bulbs for the THIRD time! If I fail again I'm just going to get someone to shoot me.Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0
