  • I grabbed some chips from my local on the way home tonight so no £5 OP. I was still pretty good, no bought breakfast, lunch and only chips and not anything else for dinner. But, as I said, only if I go the whole day do I get to make the OP.

On another note, come tomorrow it's going to be 1 week till D Day ;)

  • Back on the wagon today. I popped into Tesco's to pick up some 2 min noodles to go with my bread and found them to be a rather eye popping 78p! Seriously? Is that how much they are now? Anyway Tesco's had some little Thai boxes that you pop in the microwave and they were normally £2.10 each but now were 2 for £2. So it actually works out cheaper to buy twice as much!

That was within my budget and as it has vegetables I thought it would be a healthier choice than just some noodles and bread. Well, next time I'm going for the noodles! I will eat the other one because I've paid for it but from now on, no matter how cheap they are, I'm not buying them!

I also made a Tuna and Cheese toastie at home and reheated it in the microwave. It was a bit soggy but I have to say absolutely delicious! I think I could be on a bit of a winner there! Cheap and tasty :)

Oh and my boss also took me out for a drink. Nice ;)

So, another £5 goes into the OP pot.

  • Not too bad of a Money Saving weekend. In fact I didn't spend a penny :) I've cleared out my front room and (finally) finished putting hemp between the floorboards. It's now been cleaned and wiped down with white spirits and the first polyurethane coat has gone on. If it's like the rest of my house it will need another couple of coats. Hmm, I might need to get another tin as what I've got will cover that room but I've still my bedroom to coat.

Everything is currently piled into my kitchen. I have to move aside the bed frames to access my oven and move my clothes horse to open my fridge :pI think the friendly neighbourhood cat thinks my place is a bit like a maze; every time he shows up everything is in a different place. Often in piles on the floor!

I nearly had a spend moment when I was looking for the new pad I'd bought to use to coat my floors. I couldn't find it and realised I must have packed it away. Looking at the huge pile of stuff in my kitchen nearly made my heart sink and I was weakening and thinking of just going out and buying another one. BUT NO! I stood firm and dug through that huge mound of crap until I'd found it!

    Yah me :A

You may also note that have now updated my signature. I've set myself a 'mini challenge' to get me back into the saving spirit. It's a bit of a hard ask but I think I have some money scattered around various accounts that I can consolidate and use to pay a chunk of it off. It just requires me to pull finger!

  • Another no spend day but it was touch and go. I had the other one of those Tesco Thai in a box (Phad Thai this time) and it was inedible. After struggling for a bit I had to shove it to one side, I was just going to make myself sick. Sooo, it looked like I was going to have to buy my lunch but it was a colleagues birthday and he had brought in 4 boxes of donuts :D

Not a healthy lunch by any means but two of them got me through the day without any spending. I'll take that one as a team win!

  • Well I scampered home and put the last coat on my living room floor today, once that dries I can move most of my stuff into there and do my bedroom. So what that really means is:

    Drum Roll Please!

I can FINALLY buy some proper furniture. Seeing as I fairly much have nothing at all, these are the things I am most likely going to be getting:

    High Priority
    Sofa
    Bookshelf
    Dining Table/Chairs

    Medium Priority
    Dresser
    Closet

    Lower Priority
    Storage Chest/Blanket Box

    Computer Desk
    Piano

This doesn’t include other things for the house like blinds, a microwave, a rug runner for the hallway, getting my lights up, or other things of that nature. Still it will look a lot more like a home once I’ve got all that in! I’ve got a load of late night shifts coming up which means I don’t have to leave for work until 3pm – that makes for a good shift for taking deliveries of furniture. Especially as work is very understanding and would probably let me be a bit late if I needed to be.

Of course I'm doing all this just when I decide to set myself a goal of paying off £5k in four months :p

Well the lower priority ones can almost certainly wait until after Christmas, but the others will allow me to get a lot of my gear out of the cardboard boxes they've been staying in and giving my poor neglected flat a far more 'lived in' feel.

So now the question really is - do I go for cheaper but probably not as nice furniture, or spend a little more? For example, this is a pretty good deal for a table and chair set. But this might be even better!

Or how is this for a fantastic deal for a sofa bed? But this one would match my room better and is kinda funky. Not a sofa bed though so I would have to get an air mattress at some point.

    Oh decisions, decisions!

Dogs are expensive (as expected) but this might be some help with keeping the costs down - Free microchipping, free health checkup, discountered flea/worm treatments (if he needs it)and discounted dog neutering vouchers. Now I just have to make sure I'm free on Sunday the 20th of October and right there on their door step when the gates open at 12pm.

  • Rang and spoke to them about the neutering voucher as I wanted to be sure that I would still qualify on my wage. She said I would but then said that they didn't do it but would give me a pamphlet for a 'Chip and Snip' place. Hmm, those are definitely only for people who qualify for financial assitance.

Never mind, I'm now actually thinking I might not get it done. Not yet anyway. There are a lot of health issues associated with dogs especially if they haven't had all of their growth hormones yet. So, he might be retaining his 'puppies plums' for a while :D

A fair few places do free micro chipping these days. When I took my dog to a puppy party at the vet they gave us a 20% off neutering voucher which helped as it is a lot more expensive for girls, especially big ones.
Good luck with the pooch - we are adding a new puppy to the family in mid September. Exciting times
