  • Not for a few days I should think, he mentioned talking to people 'over the course of the week' so that doesn't sound like a shirt decision. I'm not as fussed about it anymore though - I'm thinking that as I didn't blow his socks off I probably won't get the job which is a little depressing but par for the course work wise right now :-)

Work has really been a nightmare and is the major contributing factor to my low mood for all this months. I actually had a truly dreadful day a few days before this job came up and I spent the weekend thinking about whether I could manage to quit my job. Due to all the renovations though I decided it wouldn't be prudent. Getting cautious in my old age :-)

  • Well I had quite a relaxing weekend for the main part as I recuperated from the hectic schedule I've been on for the last three weeks. Still vie been left with a total mess by my 'builder' and it isn't going to sort itself out so I've already started trying to sort out the worse of the repairs.

I've painted the doors and surrounds that he neglected to do and vie started on one of the windows. I'm going to have to wait for that one really though as I need tape to cover so I don't end up painting my bay windows shut.

He was supposed to remove the window from the frame and paint it but, yeah.

I am currently going to try to get it as close as I can then put tape under the opposite side and (very very!) carefully use a tiny painting brush to fill in the last bit. It will take ages and if anyone has any better ideas I'd be grateful.

I will also use the small painting brush for fixing the coving where he's just slopped it up. And all around the skirting boards... That's gloss paint which is much worse.

The floors themselves now have gloss paint al over them because it ran under the masking tape he used. My chandeliers are not up, my chimney has not been done and my bit of granite for the floor has also not been done. Hell even my blinds are still screwed in!

    Oh well, lesson learned.

  • And I didn't get the role :-(. So no extra cash coming in, I'll have to make do with what I've got.

I'll get on top of my house renovations and then take stock again from there.

I'm sorry to hear you did not get the job, and that the renovations are not going well.

Was the painter going come back and finish or did he do such a bad job you do not want him to come back?

I hope you find someone better to finish the job and you get some money knocked off the bill.

Bad day at work today Peonie, so a deep breath and sense of perspective needed. It's only a job and I'll get through any bad patches that just currently seem that bit worse due to the flat situation.

Well the painter is a friend of mine (and isn't that a lesson for never employing a friend) and he's sodded off on holiday after seriously taking the mick about the amount of time he was spending. For instance on Thursday I got back at 4 and he'd done the skirting boards in the hallway (should have taken him an hour) and started on a door. So... what exactly was he doing for the rest of the day? And then he complains that the job is taking too long!

Friday he didn't turn up at all, he told me that he realised he had to pack for his holiday. Wow, yeah, I can see how that would have caught him by surprised - couldn't have planned for that at all.

As for getting the work sorted I don't think I trust him to do a decent job anyway. It is seriously going to take me ages to fix up the leaking paint from the skirting boards all over my floors and walls. If they can even really be fixed.

Unfortunately I've already paid him so I think I just have to chalk this one up to experience and move on...

Is your friend an actual painter or were you helping him out? Because if he is a professional then you must have massive skirting boards!

Painting is one area of DIY I will always try to do myself, even if I am slow and find it boring.

    :rotfl:
I also know someone who also took a day off work to pack, I think if he wanted an extra day off work he should have just said so rather than what sounds like an excuse. It does not take a day to pack, it can be done in a couple of hours.

I hope you had a better day today.

  • :o I have a wee confession ; I finally set up a working debit card (after only having my credit card for 6 months) and the first thing I buy is spicy chicken wings from my local takeaway! And a battered sausage! After scoffing all that horribly expensive and extremely fatty food I topped it off by noshing down on three of my chocolates from the chocolate box - even though I was so full my trousers felt tight!

    I am so bad :(
