So it's an onion masquerading as a shredded cabbage?
it's dried chopped onion, which is why it looks like that & why it's used for convenience in manufactured sauces

I grind it up to use in my home made Fajita powder mix

    Hi leiela,

I find most pasta sauce freezes well, even cream based ones. There's a thread with lots of pasta sauce recipes so I'll add your thread to it.

    This thread might help too:

I had this the other day and it was fab. buy yourself some Batchelors pasta 'N sauce (chicken and mushroom flavour), add some milk and double cream, a bay leaf and a small pinch of cajun seasoning and simmer for 15 mins.

Alternatively if you haven't got the bachelors packets, you can add a good quality chicken cube or stock to the milk, cream, bayleaf and cajun. then just pour over the pasta.

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

My favourite one is simple tomato and onion - finely chop an onion and some garlic (amount up to you!), fry in a splash of oil until golden, add a tin of chopped tomatoes, some seasoning and a pinch of dried herbs, and simmer until thickened.

I love it because it's really easy to add in different flavours - dried chilli and chopped red pepper for a spicy sauce, bacon or sausage (cooked with the onion and garlic) for a meaty one, chopped or grated cheese to make cheese and tomato sauce... and probably lots more when I start thinking about it!

I've never tried freezing the sauce, but it should freeze pretty well, I should think.

    HTH.
Back after a very long break!

Passata or chopped tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, garlic, slug of red wine, black pepper - chuck the whole lot in a large frying pan with small amount of olive oil, stir for about 5 mins then I finish off in slow cooker for about 2 hours. My girls don't like seeing onions and mushrooms so I whizz it in the blender then use/freeze as required.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Mine's similar to CCP's simple tomato one but I add a splash of Worcester Sauce to give it some extra taste and only season with the pepper.
