Not to them (Brighthouse) but we have had a HSBC debit card go through twice on the same day (31/12/2010) to a local shop.

    Are you with HSBC?

  • This seems to be a wide spread problem. At HBOS we are aware problems with many retailers. It seem to be the merchant bank that has had a glitch and its something they are working on

This is a Visa Processing issue affecting transactions on 31st, they are appearing twice, mines to KFC.

The Chargeback line at RBS is busy but the automated message says they are aware of it and dealing with it.

I have had the same with the local Indian Restaurant, the helpful people at Halifax said that if couldnt get a refund from the restaurant I would have to pursue it through a small claims court, even though its not mine or their fault.

That is nonsense, it is Halifax's mistake not the Indian Restaurant they only charged you once. Tell them you want to do a chargeback for the duplicate transaction.

Thanks Plodder...I was going to have to go back to the pub I used my card in on New Years Eve to ask them about it, but now I will wait and see if they reverse it tomorrow.

When I spoke to Halifax yesterday they weren't very helpful - just said "Oh yeah, we've had a lot of calls about that this morning - you need to speak to the retailer about it".

Now I just need a new excuse to go to the pub after work...
