It isn't pornography there is nothing there a child shouldn't see.
If the child knows the word then they already know it so what's the problem?
If they don't then it won't mean anything to them.

Also, most children would be intelligent enough to set the search to games so that issue wouldn't have arisen in any event.

I agree, if they already know its a bad word then the damage has already been done. I knew most of these words by half way through primary school. I would regularly come home telling mum that I had heard a bad word today :rotfl:.

If they dont know it then i dont think they will start popping it into random sentances by accident, if this were the case then any word a child doesnt know would have the same result.

Though i still think companys should ** out these words to avoid this kind of reaction.

    Get a grip!!

did you really write all that bumpf in an email asking WHY it happened? It happened because that's what the terms you were searching for returned - that's how a search works. There's not a little man inside each search engine going through his filing cabinets.

Blooming hell you must be bored.

if i had seen what the OP had seen i wouldnt bother contacting play about it, id just laugh at it

Not sure what you want OP, in anycase i had a look on the site and theres only the 1 game which is Match 3 Madness so id leave it

thats because he didnt search for match madness
    he searched for Match Mandess

I dont think Play.com can be held responsible for the OP typo in this scenario

I wasn't trying to say it was a good way to attract users attention...simply that it will be hard for the OP to get anything out of play.com who may well just point them to the t&c

I think that adult themed releases on a site such as play should only show in search results if you are logged into the site and are confirmed as over 18. Simples!

How do you confirm that you are over 18 though? Just like all the other !!!!!! sites (not that I know >.>), just click a button to say your over 18 and job done.
What is pi? Where did it come from?

isnt a ds game a toy then ?
No. It is an electronic item that by its very definition potentially suitable for a wide variety of age ranges, indeed it may be that it is not suitable for children at all.

In any event, you spectacularly missed my point. The search in this case was not for a toy as you may, for example, make on the high street by going into a toy shop. It was for a selection of words, and whilst the intention may be to find an item that is suitable for children, those words may be equally applicable to items that have nothing to do with what the searcher is looking for. That is the nature of online searches. If deemed necessary the searcher can, in fact, limit searches to certain categories on websites like Play and Amazon. Clearly that option was not exercised here, something that Play cannot be held responsible for.

And how are you reaching the conclusion that the word 'w*nkers' is one that should only be seen or heard by those over the age of 18? It is word that is present in films rated 15, and indeed probably 12 as well, if not in the odd PG film. So on what basis do you think that only over 18s should be exposed to it?

  • "W*ankers" is announced in Tokyo Drift, which is a 12.

by the guy with the english accent. i heard that one 11 year old snuck in to see the film without his parents and then when he heard it he ended up going on a murderous rampage killing hundreds of people and ended up eventually bombing a baby seal sanctuary by using homemade explosives hed found the recipies for on the internet by using his new-found word and search term on google.

    .......but i may be wrong.
