WONT SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!?!?!

if theres at elast one thing the simpsons is still good for, its that quote. Seriously, do you think children are going to explode or something when someone says w4nker in front of them?

I teach... generally the kids know much more colourful language than that when their parents aren't watching!

I don't see what the problem is. Play is a site for adults to purchase items with credit/debit cards so children shouldn't be using it to buy items.

my 13 yr old has her own debit card and is linked to my account ,she does discuss what she wants before she buys .

play/amazon are to kids today what catalogues and the argos book were to kids years ago. i would expect [maybe wrongly] for a search for a toy not to bring up anything with an adult theme.

Except it wasn't a search for a toy. It was a search for a name. I don't see how Play.com can be criticised if that name matches a child's product and an adult themed product. Putting children's toys next to sex toys in a high street store would be bad form, but the nature of internet shopping means that situations such as the one in this thread are going to crop up now and again. The only way for parents to eliminate that risk is to prevent their children from using the internet altogether. It is certainly true that every time a child logs on to the internet there is far more risque material for them to stumble across accidentally than the Play.com online product catalogue.
"MIND IF I USE YOUR PHONE? IF WORD GETS OUT THAT
I'M MISSING FIVE HUNDRED GIRLS WILL KILL THEMSELVES."
  • I think that adult themed releases on a site such as play should only show in search results if you are logged into the site and are confirmed as over 18. Simples!
  • It isn't pornography there is nothing there a child shouldn't see.
If the child knows the word then they already know it so what's the problem?
If they don't then it won't mean anything to them.

Also, most children would be intelligent enough to set the search to games so that issue wouldn't have arisen in any event.

No, no more than a book, a CD or a DVD is a toy. There are some suitable for children, some suitable for adults, some for all ages.

On the play.com website terms and conditions, this is the third statement:
You must be eighteen years old to use this site. If you are under eighteen, you may only use the site in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, a parent or guardian. If you do not qualify, please do not use the site.
Ok so nobody would usually look there (I only did after reading the post) but it is there so I doubt you'd get very far complaining to them. As several others have said, your child could easily find much worse if he has access to the internet

great, because everyone looks at the get out clauses when online shopping. if a retailer really wants this to be taken seriously then a pop up should come up as soon as the web page loads .

    Get a grip!!

did you really write all that bumpf in an email asking WHY it happened? It happened because that's what the terms you were searching for returned - that's how a search works. There's not a little man inside each search engine going through his filing cabinets.

Blooming hell you must be bored.
