Fleas live and breed in soft furnishings and carpets.
They only jump onto animals/humans to feed and lay eggs (in the case of animals)
I used Acclaim Flea Spray. It about £13 depending where you get it from.

You spray carpets etc and it kills fleas and hatching eggs for upto 12 months.
It does work and I can't recommend it enough.

put a cat flea collar in your hoover bag as well to kill any you suck up. And the spray you can buy from the vets is excellent stuff.

Thats a horrible feeling I know. We were infested a couple of years ago, spent about £150 on flea sprays, bug bombs the lot and no joy. Sent DS to nursery one day and got a call to say they had found a flea on him! Big so and so's they were. Imagine my embarassment!

Got the council in after that to de-flea us, worked a treat and turned out to be FREE! Next time there was sign of fleas called them straight away!
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j

 You must have felt awful ...poor you. I am too ashamed to talk to anyone face to face about this. The ability to get help anonymously, from people that have 'been there' is fantastic. Thank you all so much.

The spray I have bought lasts upto 7 months. I was thinking of sraying inside the hoover bag too.
Being a member of MSE I would feel compelled to rescue the flea collar each time I changed the dust bag :o .

FWIW - If you have a steam cleaner (or can borrow one for a couple of weeks) these work a treat on furnishings/floors/carpets/toys and absolutely anything you suspect of harbouring the little b*ggers, especially if you cant put them through a really hot wash. You're supposed to test delicate fabrics first, but I guess I'm lucky because everything has been fine.
I use it after vacuuming about twice a week if I get an outbreak, my 2 cats will bring in these problems every now and again - so they get the spot-on stuff!

I don't like using chemicals because of my skin sensitivity and found the steam cleaner very effective

I was recommended this, to rid the house of fleas. (One of my dogs got covered in them from wet sand delivered in driveway and long grass.)

You sprinkle it into the carpet leave the room for 3 hours, then hoover it up. keeping all pets out whilst its gone. It seems to have worked.

I found it difficult to get hold of from chemists, after ringing around a few in the area, they said 'oh that's an old fashioned remedy' and 'ooh we haven't had that for donkeys years', however I persisted and the next chemist not only ordered me it but had it then within the hour! and on a busy friday. It costs six pound and the treatment will last for a year.

How it works - the fleas ingest it and are killed, it also removes moisture from the carpets, dries it all out and dries out the fleas at the same time.

    Hi all

My OH has just called from work and said he took off his jacket and something hopped off his shirt, the guy in his office said it was a flea

We have two dogs, I know I need to frontline them, but he says we don't have to worry about the house as they will die once they are off the animals, is this correct please?

    thank you x
