The OP explained the reason for the problem at the start of the post - I was in ASDA

I disagree. I'm disabled and can't carry a basket so have to get a trolley even if I only have 3 or 4 items. I always use the self-checkout if I'm just doing a top-up shop. Why should I be stopped from using it because I'm disabled?0 -

Thats why I shop at Waitrose and M&S ... Wait sorry, I'm not made of money, I shop at Asda and Tesco and every time I walk towards the tills I shudder because I know that in the next few moments my faith in humanity will decrease just a little.0 -
my local tesco has 8 machines at one end of the checkouts and 6 more at the other, all but two of them are for trolleys as well and it works well until you get to the vouchers and if you have more than 2 you have to get authorisation for everyone! they also close the 2nd lot at the other end at certain time as dont have the staff to monitor them!0

Not as effective as the "enforced listen to Ke$ha's album" trick
Followed by the enforced listen to the Jedward "album", they break after 2 "songs"0 -
I looked at this thread because stupid people on the SS tills really annoy me - and I was loving the ideas for sorting them out!!
But not keen on some later posts - I, like CoolHotCold, am not made of money so cannot afford to do my full weekly shop at M&S, Waitrose etc. Asda and Tesco give me the best deals (on mainly baby items) so that is where I shop. Maybe not "high end", but it's what I can afford and I am debt free - isn't that part of the idea of this website?0 -
Easiest way to sort out the SS tills would be to charge more.
F'rinstance: Tesco's 10 items max. 11th item goes through at normal price, 12th item at normal price, 13th item and the balance increases 25%, 14th item and the balance increases by 50% and so on.
I think when they have a £1,000 bill for a £50 shop the thickos might take notice and think of others rather than expecting the world to revolve around them. The man without a signature.0 -
The only form of compensation for the frustration of these tills used to be the noobs who left their change in the tills (well before you arrived i might add) ready for you to collect. Now even that doesnt happen. Everyone is far to savvy.Back by no demand whatsoever.0
