help me please!!!!

Hi,

I'm in a bit of a predicament. here goes:

I sell alot on Ebay, clothes, baby stuff, BNWT Ann Summers lingerie, etc. and i make a fair amount, however here is my problem, I buy more than i sell! Big time!

I tend to find myself trailing through the listings unneccessarily for 'a good deal' the problem is i don't need it. when it arrives i have no real use for it.

I don't know if i have reached addiction stage but i am constantly recieving 3-4 packages a day from Mr.Posty. He must think i'm a nutta! Usually it is one of these catagories: DVD's, baby clothes (Eliza is only 5 months and she is more than kitted out untill she is almost 2yrs old), baby toys, and other bits'n'bobs.

I am not in the red financially because of this ( i am more sensible than to let that happen) - but most of my spare cash seems to go on Ebay.

I am a self-confessed Walt Disney fanatic and have over 200 disney films - this is the only area i dont mind spending on as it is the one thing i really enjoy - and they will come in handy when i aim to become a foster carer & childminder in a few years.

But the other spending really needs to stop before i get in trouble.

I at least want to continue the selling as i make about 100.00 a month from just a few listings but every time i get a decent paypal balance i go and spend it all back. What i really need is some psycological help i think.

I would really appreciate any comments or advice here.

Am i the only one with this problem?

Add up the cost of all the "tat" you have bought.
Stack it all up in a pile.

Then sell it back on Ebay!

  • The prob is i tried that but alot of it no-one wants any of it - prob why silly me thought it was a bargain! Will keep doing this routinely though to see if i van shift it. usually i end up giving some of it away too.

Yes, but add up the total cost of it. It'll be more than you expect.

Keep a running total. It's all about having an image in your mind. If they image is "oh it's only £5" it won't feel important, but if it's "I've already spent £295 on tat in 2 months and this will take it to £300" it'll be different.

  • Hehe (nervous laugh), I wish my figures were as low as that!

I see what you mean now - I am a little apprehensive to do this as i know it will be much more than i expect - i'm gonna give that a go deffinately though!

I think thats what i need though - bit of a scare tactic!

The other thing is that you're only allowed to use money from selling things you already have for buying new things.

It's all a game based on ways of looking at things.

  • Wow! Just had a look and all of my purchases on 'My Ebay' going back to 4th Sept 06 (bacause thats as far as i can seem to go back - 60days) and i have spent 669.80 and i'm not sure if that even includes p&p. Really scary!

This has been going on since June 06 though - and i know its well over 3000 GBP since June if i include the p&p.

At first i was only selling so i made over 1000GBP in my first few weeks.

    - but that really is not the point - I have just realised that i keep trying to justify it to myself.

I seem to have more issues with this than i initially thought.

Wy not set yourself a goal. Something like paying for a nice holiday next year from EBay, keep your balance in Paypal so you can watch it go up and (hopefully not) down. Think you need something to focus on.

Sell all the tat you have bought and the shock of realising how little it is really worth might just give you the jolt you need.

I suspect your problem is more widespread than you think. I know I buy stuff I don't need just because its a steal!!
