    Happy sunday too
  • I forgot to ask everyone about their skin. I have had atopic eczema all my life (25yrs). Obviously smoking didn't help because it drys the skin even more. Now the problem area is my face it is soooo dry! My eyes don't feel like they open properly and have gone all wrinkly:eek::rotfl: I have had this before but not this bad! Anyway I am moisturising all the time with the stuff that doesn't make me itch (looks like soft candle wax) and feels horrible on( dd2 likes it ). Aint working yet:(

Wow I needed that vent! So have any of you had worse skin before it gets better? Normally this would drive me into depression and smoking but so far I am happy and positive!

I haven't had that, my skin was dried out by smoking and it's much better now.
It will need time to settle down I suppose, it can only get better after smoking stops.

On another note, I went to the dentist and told him I was off the fags for 5 months and using e-cigs, he was so chuffed he gave me an extra special teeth cleaning, which hurt like hell, but my teeth are now the cleanest they've been in a decade! I actually don't mind smiling now!

Can I just say, I hope Sue comes back too.

If Sue-UU has set up another thread can anyone tell me what it is as for smoking can anyone tell me where it is please as I wish to join

Hi caracara - I have no idea if there is another thread. Tried looking but nothing came up and it would seem that Sue-UU has not posted for a few days. I sincerely hope that she is not unwell - if so, we must send her lots of :A

Keep on posting and someone will be around to listen. Am I right in thinking that you are doing this cold turkey? Well done you!

  • Hi - please could everyone state their time quit and method of quitting and in the title line? It makes it easier for others to see where you are and, hopefully, offer the appropriate advice.

Unlike me - sorry, forgot on the last post. :o

Bit of a change to my nurse who was saying that it doesn't matter how much nicotine we have in the body as 'no ones ever died from too much nicotine, it's just the way you take it'.

Hoping that Sue is back to this thread soon as I think I am really going to need her support.

    Hi Money maker

I am astonished that the nurse said that! Nicotine constricts blood vessels, causes neurological damage and has a psychoactive effect. That is just off the top of my head but the evidence is out there. My toes (and gums) are proof! There was someone on here not too long ago who quit smoking rather than lose a leg.

Pleased you are reading Alan Carr - many quiters on this thread have been helped by the book.

Chris, Liberro is a good e-cig supplier, but there are cheaper options available :)

Not the best e-cig going, but a good rechargeable/refillable one to try out - wouldn't normally recommend an e-cig with only one battery, but at £6.99 you can't really go wrong as it's the same price as a disposable -

    Thanks Isaac.

I’ve just bitten the dust and ordered! AHHHHH!

Finally doing something about it, and it scares me a little. :o

There is a reasonably interesting thread here about nicotine.
    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/187176-how-bad-nicotine-itself.html

I don't want to quote the whole post, but there is a good one IMO by jlarson on the 2nd page.
There is probably a lot of studies going on, or will soon being started, re the non tobacco use of nicotine. I suspect we will all know more about it in time.

I know I stopped caffeine a while ago as it was giving me too much hassle and nicotine is not supposed to be that much different. So if I keep off caffeine but keep taking nicotine for the moment, then I'm happy.

Hi Spicyprawn, I don't have eczema so can't comment on that but I do have very very sensitive skin. A few things I like that are calming are:

Cleanser - Lipikar Syndet body cleansing gel from La Roche Posay - this is meant for body but it's so gentle, I use it on my face. It's foaming but not stripping at all. Here's their website but i get mine from pharmacy at hand online - http://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/product-treatments/Lipikar/Lipikar-Syndet-p687.aspx Actually, looking at the website, it seems like the whole range is designed for eczema. I know when my skin flares up like you say with dry tight, wrinkled skin, it means my skin barrier has damaged and I have to use just two or three really calming products until it feels strong and not tender any more.

Moisturiser/primer (for under makeup) - La Roche Posay Cicaplast. This is designed for recovery of the skin after a chemical peel when it's got to that wrinkled, about to shed stage. Again, it's a barrier healer. If you need to wear make-up during the day, I'd use this as a primer underneath so you don't look flaky.

Moisturiser for night. It sounds like you've got a good night product there anyway - I'd keep that going or see if your GP can refer you to a dermatologist to see if they can suggest anything better.

With the last order I placed, they sent me a couple of samples - Nutritic & Lipikar Surgras - if you'd like me to send them to you, give me a shout. http://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/product-treatments/Nutritic/Nutritic-2-5-p793.aspx http://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/product-treatments/Lipikar/Lipikar-SURGRAS-p690.aspx

While you're doing all this protection from the outside, it might be a good idea to boost your supplements that help joints and contain hyaluronic acid/collagen to try and strengthen your skin from the inside out.

Sorry if this was too much to take in, I'm a total skincare nut lately. I really hope it gets better soon. Don't be tempted to try loads and loads of different things while it's sore and tight like this.

You are going to need either some e-liquid to refill the cartomisers that you get with that kit, fairly soon, or you can buy more of the prefilled ones.
