    Hi All

Just checking in. Well I managed it..I found my ice-cream scoop..mash for dinner tonight then :D

Well done to everyone on keeping up their quits..so proud of me/everyone. We are the champions :T I can't help but look at smokers now with pity, maybe even a little disgust..is that unfair to say? I am ashamed to say I believe I am becoming a hypocrite :o I really don't like the smell and I so wished I knew honest people who could have told me long ago that that's how I smelt. I don't crave a ciggie really and I'm so pleased about that. I honestly could not have got this far without the help of this thread and all the wonderful people here. It's lovely reading how you all get on, whether you have given up or trying to quit, we have all gone/going through this wonderful journey. I have to say I have had more support here than at the chemist/dr's. I do buy my patches and Inhalator at Tesco, Boots..But the amount I have saved on not buying cigarettes is amazing and worth it. Thanks for all your support :T
I just love not smelling 'stale'. When you think of it most 'professionals' who give out NRT have never smoked and don't understand how hard it is to give up..We should all run our own 'clinics' and help others give up, (then I turn you all into vegetarians and the world will be perfect :rotfl:)

Have a good evening everyone, good to 'see' you back Kiwi.

    AZ xx

  • Hi all, first time of posting on this thread, now not smoked for 9 weeks, first 2 or 3 I did have one or 2 a day but for the last five nothing and stopped using patches a week ago, just forgot one day and haven't really needed them since.

It's great, having been a smoker for 30 odd years I thought it would be a lot harder, I'd tried before and always failed. I love having the extra cash in my purse, though not the extra weight on my hips but we'll deal with that later lol.

The only thing I have found is I seem to be more suceptible to viruses and bugs, whereas when I smoked a cold would only last 3 days this time it's lasted a week and I've now got a cough which I never had, I know it's one of the side effects but can anyone tell me when I'm actually going to feel better.

Good luck to everyone just starting, will keep posting re my progress.

    a warm welcome shariatlanta
many of us freedomfag fighters found that coughs and colds lingered in those early quit days ,
I.m not keyed up on the facts can only speak from experience and advice from folk on here but if you think of all that carp in your "pipework" from all those years of smokin its just all escaping and will do you nothing but good in the long term ,
i did suffer prelonged colds which in a way was a bonus as never even thought of a light up when all bunged up , I assure you YOU WILL get beyond this , drink PLENTY of water to cleanse your system and flush out all those accumilated nasties and try eating fruit , citrus fruits particularly and feel your lungs gently expanding with all that clean fresh air getting in to them now , not sure how many or how long you smoked for but please stick with it and read some of the encouraging recent posts on here from all those folk going through the same as yourself

Hiya all, well my good wife found this thread and after reading some of the wonderful posts it is good to see so many of you (us) giving up smoking.

I don't have a story as such, just decided last week it was the right time to give up, so as of monday this week no more cigs! :T

Since monday i have been chewing the 4mg gum, but i purchased some normal gum, i am going to try and trick my brain into thinking it is the Nicotine gum, kinda of a placebo effect, not quite sure how that will work, but i have not really craved since monday considering i was an average 25 a day smoker! :(

I have tried in the past and failed after a few days but this time i really don't have any desire to smoke anymore....

Will keep all updated and congrats and good luck to all.
  • Thanks for the words of encouragement, I've been smoking for about 30 yrs, up to 25 per day so it's probably gonna take a while to feel better. Will try eating fruit though it's never been one of my favourite things but theres a first time for everything.
    Once again thanks again.

I do agree that its very hard to give good advice if you are not a smoker. This thread is really helping me support my daughter (she's vegetarian too!).

Day 4 has been a lot better than day 3. Dd has been out and about again and on the wii fit. And eating soo many snacks. I spent £10.65 in Asda today on snacks and energy drinks

But it will definately be worth it if she can give up.

A few weeks ago I won Music maker 17 a computer music programme which I was going to ebay to help with the coast of going to a wedding. DD would really like it, so I have said she can have it once she gets to 3 weeks of no smoking. But ... if she starts again I get it back :D

welcome-1.gif to lots more new joiners! It really is so nice to see.

It really is the best place to get support.

    Hi Prudent

Well Done DD on your quit so far :T
Your DD is so lucky to have a caring mum like you. Tell her if she gets to week 3, not only will you give her the Music Maker I will team up with her and we will turn the whole world vegetarian, we can be 'partners in crime' :rotfl:

I really do rate the Inhalator (I'm also using patches Nicotinell, step 1 & step 2 £6.44 at boots at the moment) it helps with the hand to mouth 'action' when you get a craving it really helps. Maybe DD can read previous post on how we have all coped during our time. Take things one day at a time and like JD said eat fruit, drink water, ice-pops..cravings only last minutes, go and do anything a walk maybe. Lots of praise as well always helps (not to say you are not already praising DD) I've tried many ways chemist, dr's, books I've read them all Paul McKenna's book, Paul McKenna's CD/DVD, Allen Carr's book, his CD/DVD you name it I've read it. The only way I have achieved this quit is by coming on here, that's the honest truth. I just look at smokers now, even friends and hope I never go back to it, I've worked hard on this quit and pat myself on the back :D I don't know how close you and dd are, I was thinking that maybe you could both go out for walks get some fresh air as that also helps me. I'm sorry I'm going on a bit here but I do wish your DD well in her quitting the ciggies. If I got 'ratty' around my DS due to a craving I used to go and have a sleep or just lie down and watch TV, then later get up and always have a bowl of cereals. Try and get an Inhalator just to try, they are about £5. and you get 6 cartridges and the mouthpiece.

    Good luck Prudent and DD

I am very touched by the supportive posts. DD out with friends just now, but I will get her to read through later.

All so far so good :)

I am off work sick just now and the illness is giving me good days and bad days, but on the good days I will try and do as much with her as possible to keep her distracted. We get on really well so usually do lots together.

I like cooking, so on my well days I can make healthy meals to try and help her body recover a bit. The price of the inhalator is fine, so I will ask if she wants one. I do have to watch the budget as I support both of us on my own, but don't mind spending what I can afford.
