Hate wasting money on Christmas cards

Hi
Your idea is excellent! Christmas card list can grow into ridiculous proportions. Last year we sent cards just to people we rarely see, the rest we blissfully 'forgot'. It did not make any difference, no one complained or stopped talking to us. I love Christmas but you have to set certain boundaries otherwise it can all get out of hand.SSB

I would ask yourself - can you remember off the top of your head who did/did not send you a christmas card last year - if the answer is no, then they won't remember whether you send them one or not - so I wouldn't bother. For those people on e-mail, send them an e-card.0

I was hoping to try the donating-money-to-charity-instead-of-sending-loadsa-cards-at-work idea this year as we all spend so much time with each other and I would rather put a couple of ££'s in an envelope and I hope everyone else will too!!
Again not sure how the idea will go down but thought I would sound it out with a couple of good work friends then bring it up at a work meeting!0 -
I would always prefer a biscuit to a card!0

I don't give cards to people I see every day at work, and I ask them not to send me one. Most people respect my wish. Others still insist on giving me a card, but it's on the clear understanding that they won't be receiving one in return. I buy charity cards from mental health charities which I support, but I only send them to people I don't see regularly.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

I once saw a good idea at hubbys work (I think). It was done by a charity (Cancer research I think) and you got a poster to put on the wall to sign as an xmas card, and you paid a donation to the charity box at the side.
Excellent idea imo and I'm sure a homemade version for a charity of your choice would work just as well too.

A note to all of those with kids at school. In some schools not giving a card is tantamount to saying you're not friends with that person. I just get charity christmas cards

PS I refuse to give birthday cards as they are sooo much more expensive than xmas cards and use the environmental excuse

For the last four years My christmas card collection has been displayed in a nice pile on my mantelpiece i cant stand the time, paper, & money that we waste every year. Any suggestions on alternatives are great. I have 4 kids. Playschool has 86 kids we are expected to write for then the other kids have 30 a class plus family and friends neighbours I dont want to tot up the total its ridiculous. I am not humbug. i love christmas Lisa x0
