Do not forget if you are still br, that you have to inform the insurance company that you are br (wether they ask or not), if the amount is over £500 and you intend to pay monthly. This is because of the £500 limit in your br agreement.

yes kepar, that's true. i'm discharged now but i'll always get something in writing to say the br doesn't affect the validity of the insurance. thanks

Try these I posted this link earlier

Just tried the site and its crashed halfway through. Will try a more reliable form of contacting them, ie phoning.

I paid £40 extra for my car insurance before xmas, and i've just learned today, my insurance has risen almost £200 a year, due to the fact i've moved, ( postcode lottery ). Which now takes me well over the £500 threshold you have to declare when bankrupt?

I'll try this company, and my bank, as they seem amenable to selling me insurance, and report back later, ( will just stick to phone calls i think, much easier ). I can tell them i'm bankrupt and they can say no, straight away.

Trouble is i'm with a specialist car insurer, and they might reject me too, now. I may have no alternative but to find the extra £200 from somewhere, ( god knows where ), if they decide they'll still sell me car insurance.

I'm just waiting for them to call me back, as i've spoken to csm, as i was'nt told in the increase in the premium on my policy, when i informed them of my change of address. They are now at least, tracing back the phone calls i made.

Right, off to see what they can do me for, oops, do for me. Back later.

Anyone want to buy a car?

In fact, thinking about it, i'll soon be paying in insurance annually, the value of the car. Insanity.....................

    Hi again.
I should have added that the reason the question of bankruptcy is raised is now usually to establish if you can have instalments. This depends on the insurance company. Some farm it out to separate finance companies in which case it's a strong possibility of a no-no. Others do it in-house, covering themselves against your possible default by cancelling your insurance if you miss a payment without warning them first (with a good reasonable excuse and offer of catch-up payment).:)
Some would disagree that BR is only used to see if a person can pay by installements. See this lengthly thread from CitySlicker.

I just got a quote for OH's car insurance renewal and it was about £22 cheaper than last year but there wasn't any cashback on it this year. I went through the MSE process.

Waste of time for me, but at least you get specific info from talking to someone.

They do ask the bankruptcy question, and they normally will only consider bankrupts one year free of discharge, although they did say come back on your discharge date.

On the plus side, they specialise in performance vehicles and work vehicles, so it may be worth a visit back to them, although i suspect they may be on the expensive side?

How do you do that please?

Yet to get through to the bank. Proving an impossibilty, since they seem to have changed lots of numbers.

Go to the MSE main board and click on the insurance section. It details how to go through the process.
