Don't forget to run the three cheapest quotes through the three most popular cashback sites (Quidco, cashbackking ang topcashback), after all, with premiums going through the roof, every penny you can claw-back from them is better in your pocket than theirs.

  • I've renewed both my car and house insurance in the past 3 months, since I went BR. My car insurance is with the Co-op, and my house insurance is with Barclays (as I have my basic bank account with them). Both quotes were very similar, in fact a little cheaper, than I had been paying previously, and I pay by instalments on both policies.

    Hi Confused.
Happy new Year. As others have said the vast majority of insurance companies don't rate against you for bankruptcy anymore. Years ago many did because society's view was that a bankrupt couldn't be trusted with the truth. Bankruptcy is now seen in a more enlightened manner and the insurance companies have fallen into line. The exception would be if your bankruptcy was criminal bankruptcy due to fraud.
Rates for most drivers have rocketed in the last few years, especially the last 18 months and not necessarily because of bad weather. That has played a part but by far the biggest contributor to higher rates is claim fraud, particularly 3rd party injury claims. All exascerbated by the growth in fraud syndicates like the one in and around Preston recently where whole families were involved in the process....engineering the accident, organising towing, storage, replacement cars, medicals, solicitors...a kind of fraud one-stop shop.
I could go on for ages how the most minor bumps and smallest claims are turned into major issues. For example, if you as much as touch someone's rear bumper a slight buffing which could be rubbed off could be turned into a £30,000 claim by the time the garage has replaced or invoiced the replacement of a whole rear end, four passengers have been paid out for "whiplash" and the solicitors associate car hire company has charged £150 a day for car hire.

It's therefore vital you don't automaticallyaccept your own company's quote. There are MASSIVE variations on premiums. But don't be surprised if your premium is up by up to 50%. It's not uncommon.
And lastly, if you get a good quote and you're happy with the company offering it, don't delay because rates change constantly and generally the only direction is up.:)

    Hi again.
I should have added that the reason the question of bankruptcy is raised is now usually to establish if you can have instalments. This depends on the insurance company. Some farm it out to separate finance companies in which case it's a strong possibility of a no-no. Others do it in-house, covering themselves against your possible default by cancelling your insurance if you miss a payment without warning them first (with a good reasonable excuse and offer of catch-up payment).:)

Try these I posted this link earlier

I just tried this and it said they cannot offer me a q uote on a normal car yes I'm BR but with full UK licence for years and 7 years no claims etc, very strange. Got a few other quotes then got one from shiela's wheels cheapest so far then the page refreshed and said we have done some background checks and we cannot offer u a quote. I presume its coz of the BR :(

yes, I'm afraid Sheilas Wheels are not BR friendly (my car insurance was with them prior to going BR).
