any help greatly appreciated ....
son has an acer laptop that has JUST (typical) run out of warranty.
For some reason known only to sons that have too much techie stuff he was doing something to link it with his new PS3 (I think thats what he was saying):undecided. Anyway, upshot is he reformatted his laptop hard drive. Good news ... he does a daily backup:j. Bad news .... Windows 7 was pre-installed so we have no disc to reinstall the operating system:mad:.
many thanks in anticipation of words of wisdom

You wouldn't get that covered by warranty anyway user error is not included.0

When you bought it did it offer you the opportunity to make backup installations disks or does it have a recovery partition?
If the former did you make them?
If the latter did he remove the recovery partition and reformat that as well? If not it may still be their look at a boot up screen for a system recovery option.
If all is gone you will need to buy or borrow an Win 7 OEM disk and do a complete new reinstall.0 -
ACERs normally have a recovery partiton
F4 on boot up if memory serves me correct , or ALT F4 , or ALT f10Ex forum ambassador

as Inner stated above / those three options your best bet -- if available to you//BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

F4 etc having no effect. thanks though0

looks like Inner's final option is only possible. Do you think its worth taking out an annual 'repair' thing with PC world or the like seeing as my DS is so trigger happy?0
-
NO!. Unlikely to be classed as a repair as stated above anyway.
Get a copy of W7, cheaper in the long run and probably more reliable than PC World

Or borrow a copy and use the license number on the PC to reinstall it. I would offer to loan you one but Muller Country is too far away.0 -
another thing you might wish to do in future is image the entire drive with TrueImage or Macrium /

I agree, more productive to buy an actual copy of Win 7 ///BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!
