So now I have a solar PV system how do I make the most of it???

Just though i would drag this back on to topic for a bit, the way i aim to make the most of it is each time i recieve my FITs payment cheque at the end of each quarter i will pop it in the bank and then write one out for the same amount to my morgage lender, in doing this i aim to repay my morgage in about three year rather than the current five years remaining.
this will then free up the 5K anually on the morgage, plus whatever we get from FITs, to enjoy, happy days.
some may say i should have used the money i spent on the solars towards the morgage but the panels are a long term investment.

As there has been an increase in the cost of both gas and electricity which EDF supply to me, can I assume that the same % increase will be paid to me for the units returned to them? I’m not talking about the 43.3p per unit but the 3.1p paid by them to me. If not why not? I have e-mailed them this very question. Would be interesting if all with Solar asked the same question of there suppliers.

You get 43.3p for every kWh you generate, and you get a 3.1p per kWh for a notional 50% of your generated power - and you think you should get more?

    Run that by me again;)

Because that's not part of the agreement you signed up to.

Interesting item on today's Radio4 Moneybox.

"A lot of fuss has been made about wholesale prices BUT the real driving force is the need to modernise the UK power systems - both oil and gas"

It seems the poor and the low users will be hit the hardest in percentage terms.

    Hi

It's quite an interesting position to take ... not all pv owners signed up to the 3.1p/kWh/50% assumed export .... as they have the opportunity to revisit their decision on a 12 monthly basis, why shouldn't they ask this question, after all, they (the generation companies) are charging everyone for the privilage of having some solar generation within existing tariffs, then charging a further price increase based on the increase in the price of gas powered generation, even if a considerable (:D) proportion of the generation is produced using coal, or nuclear, or wind, or solar, or hydroelectricity, or ..............

All that effort, all that hoping the sun stays out while your dishwasher runs (saving a whole 3p! whoo!), renting your roof out for 25 years, all those contracts, all those dodgy salesmen (You and Yours/Which report), and all for £70 a year, if you're lucky.

We're saving £40 a month just by having switched our electricity tariff to a twinheat off-peak package, we know exactly when and for how long it's cheap, and it's far, far greener (yes, really) than PV. I really can't see what all the fuss is about.

What size of installed capacity does the above refer to?
