Any of you guys had a fitting done by TESCO? i have just had my survey for a 4KWh system and the guy who came was bang-on with the benefits of PV as a "NO_Brainer". I have to say i am rather excited by all the posotives that seem to have been posted. Any advice on wittleing down or haggeling the quote would be appreciated. Cant wait to start exporting for real!!!!!!!!

If we are to assume that arctic weather conditions could bring daytime winter power cuts in years to come, what are the chances that solar PV systems could generate enough electricity to at least keep the central heating boiler working?0

Well my fellow MSE,s i dont regard myself as a sucker as for the last 5 years i have had the pleasure of 180ltrs of constant solar thermal hot water designed, installed and by me truly, Oh and then of course is the design and installion of the multi fuel stove that provide the heat for a 4 bed detached with 14 radiators run on reclaimed timber costing a box of maleezers and a xmas card to the very nice lady at the local recycling center. This is PV project is yet another attempt to distance myself and my bank balance from the greedy clutches of the theiving utility providers who have a strangle hold over the poor consumer. After this PV project is completed then comes the stand alone pottable water supply Buried in the garden. So i will keep everyone informed about my attempt to make the purchase the best deal possible. So once again has anyone got any tips on the way forward for the savings on the PV purchase.
Many thanks

May be wrong, but I thought if there was a power cut then the SPVs would be shut off automatically?0 -

If there are power cuts there will be no PV output; it is not a 'stand alone' facility.0 -

Your posts have certainly opened my eyes to this 'flawed' system of subsidising microgeneration, but if a PV system could have kept the boiler pump going during the daytime and possibly even my PC (I work from home) then I may have taken the plunge. But I don't fancy renting the airspace above my roof for a miserly return of £70/year - probably even less in my case, as I only use around 2,000 kWh/year.
I reckon that I could make the same £ savings by switching from a power-hungry desktop to a low-power netbook, and that netbook should keep me going through most power cuts. I could then use the desktop PC's short-term battery backup as a long term dedicated back-up for a broadband modem and remain on-line too!
Hopefully, a LIDL generator (£169) could keep the rest of the essential household electrics going in cold weather and dark evenings, albeit at exhorbitant unit cost.0 -

Did I pick up on someone being offered a 10% discount from Tesco prices for these "Mark Group" installations?0 -
Another month end!
:j307kWh generated in June, 126.87% of prediction (down from 130% in March, 147% in April and 138% in May)
Total generation since installation 1445kWh, 123.263% of prediction:)
