I think I would put a unique "tag" on an existing post and then use the tag method to find it, rather than try to maintain the hard coded links.
It was this problem that drove Tim Berners-Lee to create the world wide web at CERN in Switzerland in the first place.

Thanks John. I have started to draft up some posts in Word so far. Hoping to be able to cut and paste from existing posts then I'll ask for comments, criticisms, proof-reading etc.

Your tagging system looks good, is it 'just' based on entries in the title box? Sorry if I appear slow, wifey is the alpha geek in this family.

I don't want to run anything (nor take over the world, one MSE site at a time) so would I have to make the initial posts, or could all use such a tagging system.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Mart.

PS 2.28am, don't you ever sleep?
PPS I'm sure that said 2am, not 3am, but then my posts yesterday kept changing by an hour every so often!!!

    Hi

You'll need to have the ability to lock the thread(s)/restrict public access in order to prevent others posting .... effectively the thread needs to be a 'sticky' or it will sink down the list as it ages, so the only real way to cover this within the forum is to 'speak' to the administrators ....

Admin ?? >> Could you comment please ??

Thanks Z. It's the 'losing the thread' issue that I'll need to ask about. I'm not too concerned about everyone posting, hence the reason for having a short index or John's tagging idea.

But, spent an hour drafting up some pages this morning by pulling info together from several threads and posts, and I'm getting concerned that I'm 're-inventing the wheel?'

Would a single source of caveated, straight from the horses mouth, amateur advice really be useful, or am I over-thinking this and wasting my time?

    Mart.

Edit: I'm quite happy to waste my time. M.

A single post, containing a list of links for various oft-recurring topics would be an excellent idea. Please go ahead and make the post, and people can add additions to the thread which you can add or not add to the main post as you see fit.
We can then badger the admins to make it sticky.

OK, decided to take Celerity’s advice and go for one post, that can be updated and added to, with links to other threads. If this works, and is considered worthwhile, I’ll ask the admin team about the possibility of ‘stickyness’.

Thanks everyone, I’ve slapped on a ‘short’ post on the new thread titled:

“Solar PV – Frequently Asked Questions and Answers”

Now, for the hard bit, I need your help to tidy it up, so that it works.
I’ve posted this section at the very start, that spells out what I need.

[To be deleted: Please take a look at this ‘enormous’ post, and the various sections. I’d appreciate feedback, proof-reading, corrections, comments. Pretty much anything and everything. This is in no way a finished document, I will not take offence (well not too much)!

    To start the ball rolling:
Is the caveat ok, feel I should distance this post from official MSE advice?
Should I try to include more detail, but this might further compromise the caveat and future debate.
Sections 1 & 2, to basic, too long?
Section 1 should I put in something on approx. costs?
Section 3, could go on for ever, keep it short, or summarise lots of ideas?
Section 5, could do with a weather site, recommendations please?
Section 6 on monitoring is very weak, please help.
Section 7, worthwhile (it’s at the end after all) or a total waste of time? Also needs a bit of work, I’m concerned that trying to generalise may be impossible.
Feel free to point out anything. If you want, write up a replacement section, or cut and paste mine and re-work.
Would be helpful if you add thanks to comments posted, suggestions, re-workings etc that you like, so that I can more easily see what to include/exclude/change.
The related threads, apologies, but I’ve been lazy and not gone back too far. Please let me know of older posts/threads that could be added, or simply to replace those on here.
Lastly, many thanks for comments and support so far, and in anticipation of the coming week.]

Pop your thoughts on the thread, I’ll try to amend as appropriate, and hopefully by the end of the weekend, when everyone has had a chance to comment, I’ll be able to delete ‘the blue’.

    Thanks again.

    Martyn.

It depends how you want to search for the unique reference.
    Perhaps something like:
    PV-Inverters#
    PV-Panels#
    PV-ExportRate#
Then you could put that in the heading or in the body of the posting and use Google or MSE's own search facility (open in another screen of the browser or in another tab) to go and find it.

I have never found out if it is possible to edit the heading of a posting.

I am a bit tied up during the day time at the moment, as it is the end of the fiscal year. So I am tending to have supper, then slump in front of the moronoscope only to wake up as bright as a daisy in the early hours of the morning.

There is some theory that PC screens give off more UV and that boosts serotonin - but I put it down to the stimulating intellects of other MSE members.:D

Cheers John, but decided to go for the simplest (Oh I hope so!) option, of sticking everything in one ludicrously large post. If it achieves nothing else, I'll be able to just cut and paste answers in the future, rather than trying to remember what I said last time.

You obviously haven't been reading my posts, sometimes even I fall asleep before I can get to the end of

  • I was at EcoBuild last week and found some new toys coming on to the market soon (some of them have been discussed on these pages already).

One such is solar log, which allows you to remotely monitor you PV data. At the moment, it feeds to a website, though I understand Apps are in development for mobile use.

Another is IntellyPower. There were other similar gadgets, but this one sticks as its been mentioned on these pages. It monitors your import/export and diverts excess power into the home. What it doesn't do yet is to modulate which, I understand, is the next step (available by autumn). I wonder how the Coolpower guys will react with their pricing of EMMA :D

IntellyPower sounds interesting..... I guess the details will be filled in here as and when available!

Did you get any further information from the stand?

EDIT: Just found this video on youtube

Yay my PV installation was yesterday - and today I generated 21kWh :) Pleased with the installation even though they had a challenge due to how the tiles had been laid.....

The monitoring system hasn't been set up so only been in the loft once to check the inverter. Think it peaked at 3.2 at midday. So not too bad considering the scaffold is still up and the panels have a lovely layer of concrete dust covering them. Hopefully that will all get sorted tomorrow.

I'm just using my OWL monitor as it's always been set as its pretty simple to work out if you're generating. So I've had the washine machine etc. on today and its fab seeing the OWL decrease :)

MCS cert was emailed at 10am so FIT form emailed to Good Energy by lunchtime. Loving this PV lark. Roll on getting the monitor sorted so I can access the data remotely!
