Why do Sky get away with ripping people off?

Options
I phoned sky today to pair up my second card with my new HD box. They asked me if I wanted the HD pack on it for £10 per month but as it was a second box on multiroom I assumed I would be getting it anyway but he told me different. I can’t believe what sky get away with, not only do they charge you an extra £10 per month to watch channels you’re already paying for in another room, they also want to charge for us just to have a decent picture. Now I’ve been getting annoyed with all this for a long time now and what winds me up the most is there is nothing I can do about it. I’ve seen forums with people complaining about the multiroom charge and other people saying that it is a bargain and a good thing. Would they think it was a good thing if BT charged you an extra £5 in line rental for every extra telephone you have in your house or if the BBC charged a TV licence for every TV. What if the Electricity or Gas board charged a standing charge for every appliance or the water board charged for every tap. Imagine if you got in a Taxi after your night out and the driver charged you the fare for every person in the car. The sky subscription should be for the address not the box. As for the HD charge on a second box, well this is worse than the multiroom charge. I pay for movies and sports and pay a multiroom charge for those packages on a second box. I also pay for the HD package so this should be included in my multiroom subscription but sky are obviously in the business of milking people dry. I know that there are some people out there who will just say that I am moaning and just after something for free but this isn’t the case. I don’t mind paying the subscription charges for the packages but I would also like to have the freedom to watch the channels anywhere in my house and have a decent picture on a TV that I paid enough for without having to pay monthly to get the decent picture. Also, while I’m on one, I added Sports 1 last year when my Football team were on TV (doesn’t happen often). A couple of months later they were on again but this time on Sports 2. Why can’t they dedicate the channels to certain sports? I f all football was on Sports 1 then I would only have that channel, but I suppose that’s why they do it. I just think they get away things that other companies wouldn’t and I wish there was something someone could do about it.

Because mugs like me pay it!

(I've just cancelled sports for the first time in about a decade. Decided when my team are on I'll go down the pub, or listen to the radio, because I too, am sick of the ever increasing prices).

As soon as we stop paying, the prices will fall - the bubble hasn't burst yet though.
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?

Because there are too many out there that think Sly are the only provider.

Because some of us have !!!! terrestrial TV reception so if we want choice better than what's available on Freesat ect,it's Sky or not much else.

The was talk when I was working for Sky of them binning the £10 charge in the same way as they binned the £10 Sky+ charge a few years ago.

There are plenty of feeds out there, get the right decoder and the televisual world is your oyster ;)

  • We cancelled our Sky package a few years ago because their customer services were shocking, the way they talk to you is unbelieveable. They did keep me on the line for over an hour though because they don't exactly acknowledge 'cancellations', not sure what other people's experience is of this. We now have FreeSat and love it, when you tune in the non-FreeSat channels also you get a lot more, plus we only used to watch the channels on Sky that we have on FreeSat.
All the time people pay them money for services they'll charge it, simple. There's only one way to stop that and that's to get rid, but that depends on just how much you're willing to put up with. If there was something I was really deperate to see on a channel I didn't have, I'd try and find it online or get one of those TV dongles for my PC.

They are in many places. I'd love to leave, but no one else supplies round here and the freeview signal is hit and miss still.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Murdoch isn't the only person to have satellites up there.

Why don't you use your laptop in your room and go to veetle.com or vip stand and watch all sly rip off channels for free

Well if you can get Sky, you can get also get Freesat, so your statement makes no sense.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
