You don't need to tell them, you just give hand-made next year and bask in the glow of the appreciation from everyone.
Anyone who isn't appreciative didn't deserve a pressie anyway!Aiming to be debt & mortgage free by November 2018!0 -
My OH fixed our fridge yesterday, the condensing fan was stuck as it had iced up. He had to take off the inside back to get at it. I'm currently still working out a plan of attack on saving, making electricity bill cheaper. Already fitted energy saving bulbs we were given free by a certain energy company (a form of advertisement)
. Found an extension lead that has little switches on, so I can switch off the appliances we're not using (passed on by my grandad):D. Have already agreed to switch off lights, and appliances off that we're not using. We still need to to get a bit inventive, me thinks:)!!!
I was looking at what costs I could make cheaper/save with the pet dog...started working the following out....
Tesco Value Nappy Bags (300 in a pack) 53p = 0.2p a sack
Pets at Home Dog Poop Bags (50 in a pack) £1.69 = 3.338p a sack
So to buy a similar amount of Pets at Home poop bags to teco value nappy bags it would cost (3.338 * 300) £10.14. £10.14 - 0.53 = £9.61 saved :T
The wife said you can get nappy bags bags in pound shops etc. but sometimes they're only 100, or 200 per pack. So thats still a saving regardless...
Only downside is you have to 'see' the lovely poo, swinging in the bag as you walk.. :eek:Oh well at least the bag's a fetching green colour!!!!:rotfl:
Mrs Jojo, you hit the nail on the head...people should be thankful they've had a pressie given to them, I'd be happier knowing someone had spent some time doing/making something for us. It means at least, they put thought and time into it, as oppossed to buying some last minute 'tat' from a shop.:D
I'm glad you got fridge fixed Verbatim, my mum keeps having a similar problem .

Going to be following you to see if I can pick up on your thrifty ways
An old lady in Luton didn't like walking along with her poop bags either so she kept an old handbag specifically for dog walking purposes and popped it in there til she got to the poop bin. And one day she got mugged and they stole her handbag. Wonder what they thought when they got to open it :rotfl:
Those nappy sacks are a good saving, my sister has been using them for a while.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

Done the Sealed Pot Challenge for today...
They seeked it here, they seeked it there, they seeked it everywhere....Managed to get the better half, on her hands and knees (ooo er):rotfl:, looking for shrapnel for the pot. She found some that had kindly been 'posted' by the bairns under the mat, and under the sofa of delights:).
She also managed to find our old stash of 1 and 2ps from last year - woo hoo...:T
The grand total for today is £6.28 :j
Hope you've all had a good MSE day.
Ps the better half gave me a 'dig' for the hands and knees comment
:rotfl:
Thanks Yorkshire lad, I'll have a look into that....😇 Sealed Pot Challenge: Member No: 20: 2012 = £92.14; 2013 = £45.27; 2014 = £54.70; 2015 = ; 2016 = £70.38 2022 = £10.58 2023 = ???? 🍀 2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD 65/365 so far. 👾 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 🍀 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 20120 -
hee hee at the handbag story. Very funny. You know folks are right re the home made pressies. I am an excellent knitter, can knit anything to be honest, and hand knits are becoming very fashionable again, so I will dust off my needles and get going on Aran jumpers for everyone for next year I think. I will need to buy the wool but that wont cost too much. I also make yummy sweets so I might just do that as well. Food for thought folks. Oh just had a thought. I could sell my sweets to pay for the presents. Hmm I'll have a wee think about this one and see if it is a possibility.5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -

Wool can cost more than you think! It used to be cheaper to knit but doesn't seem to be now.
How about getting a stall at a local craft fair and trying the sweets?:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
I'll be following your personal challenge for ideas too. I'm impressed with your success in fixing your car - I'm not sure I'd have the confidence to try something as complex as that.
I tackled a few small repairs at home during the past year and managed to fix our toilet (free, no parts) and replace a leaking waste unit on the kitchen sink (£15) with advice from the maintenance guy at work and staff at a DIY store. Although they were small jobs, it was so satisfying doing it myself and not having to pay plumber fees.
I think I'll take a leaf out of your book and have a go at plastering around our fireplace next.
Best of luck with your challenge.VSP 2011 Member No. 72 £35.01Pay off as much as you can in 2011 challenge Member No. 101 £695.37/£4,232Sealed Pot Challenge Member No. 1228:j0
