I agree nit picking on spelling is bad unless its really bad along with grammar, long post without paragraphs makes it very hard to read.

Perfect spelling should never be essential though.

I use lol and fwiw and imho etc
But cannot stand text speak otherwise: in fact I don't like even using it in texts unless I am in a real hurry.
    I don't even like putting 'x'mas!
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

    Really winds me up!!!

Yes, that winds me up too.

As does, 'can i get' instead of 'can i have'

Another one here who uses full words and punctuation in text messages and e-mails. One of my bug-bears is people who never use capital letters making it very hard to read.

Could, should, would OF instead of could, would, should HAVE.

    Apostrophes in the wrong place.

Try AND instead of try TO.

That's it, I'm not looking at this thread again as each time I do I am reminded of other things that make me sound like a real moaning Minnie (and I'm not really).

Grrr, text speak, I hate it, hate it, hate it! My step-daughter sent me a text from her new phone and I couldn't even read most of it, me and DH tried to dechiper it, it would have been quicker to call her, not that her speech is much better!

Another pet hate is when people say "can I lend a tenner off you?"
No, but you can BORROW a tenner!!!

  • You're not alone - this drives me mad! I am old enough to remember old money (although only just!) but I love my gadgets and can text at 100mph (figuratively speaking of course:D). I can only do that if I text in full English - if I used text speak I would be there all day!:D

  • I cannot abide lazy grammar. It's funny when you ask the person to modify the post and they respond with a rant back at you. You only know it's a rant from the volume of capital letters and exclamation marks, otherwise you wouldn't have a clue.

It never fails to amaze me that people are capable of understanding that WRITING IN CAPS WITH LOTS OF EXCLAMATION MARKS IS SHOUTING!!!! but they can't grasp basic uses of the English language.
