Text Speak - a Vent

Hi, is it just me or do other people have a problem with text speak being used in forums?
I absolutely cannot be bothered to read posts that the poster can't be bothered to write in proper English - especially if they are asking for opinions or advice, and to spend time trying to work out what somebody is saying because they don't take the time to compose their post properly is a no no as far as I'm concerned.
Just a pet peeve, but then I am of the older generation and perhaps not so tolerant as I should be, so no flames - please:)

I also find it annoying. I always spell out words properly in a text message as well.
Facebook is worse than forums though, I find - probably because it has a lot of younger people on.0 -
I'm not long out of my 20s and text speak bugs the life out of me too. I'll spell as many words properly in a text message until I run out of characters then resort to shortening them (money savings comes before proper English unfortunately). What also bugs me though is incorrect usage of spelling and grammar. When people write 'alot' or 'their' instead of 'there' I want to send them back to school.
I know I'm not perfect (she says as she scans her post for typos!) but there is still a place for using proper English.0 -
It's laziness to be honest, combined with lack of education & proper grammar.I suppose it has it's place on mobile phones but typing on a PC Keyboard to post on an internet forum is a heck of a lot easier than texting.
It's a sign of the change in values, same as in some cases, game consoles have replaced physical exercise which has added to the obesity epidemic in our once great country...0 -
Text speak on computers actually comes from the days of dial-up internet connections when the connection speed was really slow (75 bits per second), and being charged by the minute, it was important to fit as much into your message as possible in a smaller space. Since most people have broadband internet connections these days, this isn't so important now.0

'Could of'
'Would of'
'Should of'

never mind text speak, lolspeak is utter drivel0

It doesn't bother me as much as some MSE posters' sigs which have words to the effect 'pls dont complain about my spelink and grammer its wot I say that matters'.
Only problem is, it's impossible to figure out if what has been said truly matters because the poster's knowledge of paragraphs is also non-existent.0 -
How refreshing - it's not just me!0

I am the same I also ignore people who can't be bothered to use paragraphs or the pig ignorant ones who cant be bothered to thank people when they have tried to help, its rude and lazy0

Text speak is annoying on the forums and I don't use it on text messages either.
I never bother to read peoples posts if they are just one big paragraph with no or little spaces used.
Perfect spelling should never be essential though.0
