DANGER
Aviva are cheap because they are rubbish and possibly the worst insurance company out there when you need them to help you. Avoid like the plague.
I checked them out before. Martin lewis reccomends them in his tips this month.
Have you had a problem with them in the past? I was with AXA before and had no problems, thought they would be similar.0 -
I had the same issue. Car insurance more than doubled, no claims made etc. (9+ years no claims) I looked round and found that Tesco were the cheapest, they have been the dearest in the past. When l rang to enquire if my old company would price match they wern't interested and they didn't even question it when l informed that l wasn't going to renew0

its tesco im with, they have consistently been the cheapest (i have always price checked every renewal) but it used to be underwritten by RBOS and now they are disconnected from them. The next lowest price i found on the pricechecker was £950 and to be honest, not very MSE but for the original price of £1020 I would have stuck with them.
Im confident I cant get it cheaper from anyone else, now they have reduced it to under £900, and may look into the possibility of claiming the amount extra for the non fault bump via SCC.0 -
we found our insurance went up loads this yr. we have full no claims ( protected), no points , we have fully comp . and the renewal came in higher than last yr. dispite hunting about we couldn't find any other company who could beat our insurance. we did talk to our insurers and managed to get it back down to what we paid last yr.
the only thing we can think of , is we live in a bad area and our postcode does us no favors. saying that my hubby really old car ( k reg ) is so cheap to insure fully comp, they are almost paying us,lol.0 -
Direct line were the cheapest for me for many years then 2 years ago the premium shot up to over £400.
Got better quotes and phoned them to say i was not going to renew and they dropped the price to £300.
Last year they did it again, Wanting nearly £500 this time, Got quotes around £350 and phoned them again
to say i would not be renewing and they said tehy would try and match the price. They came back with a price £3
below my renewal quote. I laughed and said is that the best you can do, They replied yes. I said then i will not be
renewing.
This years prices have gone sky high, Now getting quotes from the online comparison sites for £700+, RAC phoned me
to ask if i would be taking my insurance with them i laughed at said only if you can drop the price 50%.
RAC leaflet said 50% of their policy holders pay less than £264, Why is my quote for nearly £800???
Strangely i put my sisters name on as an additional driver and it knocked £30 off, Even though she has had 3 claims in
the past 2 years. mental.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Not really, when you consider that some of the "accident assistance" companies are making a huge amount out of very small accidents (IIRC sometimes hundreds a day in extra fees for things like "like for like" car hire), potentially doubling (or more) the cost of many minor no fault claims.
Add in the ambulance chasers "were you hurt in that 5mph shunt?. you were hurt weren't you? I'm sure you were hurt. You Were Hurt!" and it all adds up.
Especially after a couple of snowy/icey winters where there have been a lot more smaller accidents than usual.
IIRC most of the insurance companies make little or no profit from the actual premiums, they make any money from investing the premiums they take in.
I'm not exactly happy with how much my insurance costs, but I can understand how it happens and roughly why it costs as much as it does.
The insurers do make a lot in commission from selling your details to the accident chasers though, and in commission from the "whiplash" claims that are succcessful from the third parties insurers.0
