Paying £21.75 for Broadband, are there better options

Right, after ringing Virginmedia to see if I could reduce my broadband bill, and then being offered a tv and phone package for double what I currently pay, then being transferred to cancellations put on hold for 10 mins and then get through and they are shut I am fuming (mobile costs to 08 No's didnt think to use saynoto0870). I have had the same modem for 8 years and they wouldnt even upgrade that without charging me £60.
I dont need a telephone, or TV just broadband are there any other options. I'm weary of changing as I have there email address and never a glitch in service.
Can any make any suggestions please based on their experience of leaving Virgin and going to another supplier?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Virgin are the only company able to give you BB without a phone unless you want to use mobile BB.0 -
I've got BT broadband for 7.50 a month.0

You could try one of the Mobile Networks, not sure if that would suit your requirements better.0

Seems to be some confusion here, if VM or NTL or Telewest originally supplied your modem a then a replacement is free if the original is faulty or not suitable for the new speeds now being offered. However you have not said why you think it needs to be changed? Some customers originality bought their modems so they own them not VM.
However the £60 charge is for a Virgin Media Hub (router).0 -
Thanks for all replies, looks like I could get a phoneline and broadband for the same price as I pay for just BB.
In terms of the modem its an old one that supports 8 meg and I have my own wirless router. On occasion either the modem or router decides its not going to work properly, so why wouldnt I want to consolidate this into the new technology which all new customers are getting for free?0 -

All depends on what is available to you. How far are you from the exchange? In terms of the modem its an old one that supports 8 meg and I have my own wirless router.
What BB speed are you on with VM?On occasion either the modem or router decides its not going to work properly, so why wouldnt I want to consolidate this into the new technology which all new customers are getting for free?
If it's your router causing the problem VM won't do anything.
The new hub being provided has its share of criticism at the moment - many are seeing a drop in performance with it.0 -
No the modem has issues also and can only handle 8meg.
I will look at options using a bt phoneline i think. Theres an exchange within a mile or so of my house.0 -

Which is why I asked what BB speed you are on with VM, If it's 10Mb or more ask for a new modem as yours cannot give you the speed you are paying for.I will look at options using a bt phoneline i think. Theres an exchange within a mile or so of my house.
What is the exchange name?0 -
