Minniepoos: New Year - New Life (and it's GONNA be good!)

Hey minniepoos! Hope your weather is good. That is a lovely thing for your dad to do. Try and think about it as he is doing it for DD rather than for you, that might make it a bit easier for you.
Your parents are your parents. They love you. They want the best for you no matter what age you are. You won't have to rely on them forever, it will get better for you. I am talking as someone who has been there, I know exactly how you feel about that. I used to have to ask my mum for £20-£50 at the end of each month when there was just not enough money left before payday. I always paid her back but I felt horribly guilty for asking. As she said to me, she is my mum, if I can't ask her for help then who can I ask? Your dad sounds lovely and he just wants the best for you and DD and will do anything he can to help. It is all going to come together for you soon

Gap - you always know what to say, and once again I thank you x
Managed to spend some money today - got some earrings for 2 euros, and some incense sticks for 1.50
And I stressed loads about that!! I think I might just take the 50 euros home, change them to £s, and take it off the amount my folks have to pay for the uniform. At least I can do that without stressing loads about it! Total Debt January 2014 £10,725.44

I just want you to know you are not on your own in your situation. Mine was slightly different but it boiled down to the same thing. I know it will get better for you but only because I have been there. If someone told me 4 1/2 years ago I would be where I am now I would have laughed and then probably cried. I would never have believed it though.
I'm glad you treated yourself. Don't feel guilty for that, everyone deserves a treat now and then. It's not like you went out and blew the 50 euros in one go!! Wear your earrings and feel good in them. Burn your incense sticks and relax and enjoy that treat.
I hope you can relax and enjoy the rest of your holiday too.

Can't believe the day I've had. Went to an interview this morning - seemed to go really well, then even laughed with me about how rubbish all the other applicants had been. Then this afternoon I get an email saying that "there were many strong candidates and unfortunately on this occasion you will not be offered the position". Bit of a self-esteem blow....
Then, this afternoon DDs cat came home limping and holding a front paw at a really bad angle. I got him to the vets straight away, and they admitted him, gave him painkillers and x-rays. Turns out he's badly dislocated his elbow - so badly that when the vet put it back in, it just fell out again. The vet recommended having him put down
But I couldn't. DD stills cries at night sometimes about her dad getting rid of the dog when he left - I couldn't do it to her. The vet said he would call me to discuss the options. When he called back, a friend had popped in to see me. The vet was saying what he options were, and the best one seemed to be having his leg amputated, which was gonna cost about £500 including the x-rays and stuff that had already been done. My friend just took the phone off of me, spoke to the vet, and agreed to pay whatever it costs.
He says I can pay him back whenever I can. I told him he couldn't do it. He said he couldn't not do it - he's a pet person. We all sat in my living room in tears - him, me & DD. But it's done. I can't believe he's done that for me. Totally humbled by what a good friend he is. DD had £40 early birthday money and I had £20 in my purse, so we've given him that already.
The annoying thing is, I always used to have insurance for DDs cat - had for years. But I let it lapse this year - just can't afford everything. As soon as I can afford it though....
Right. I MUST be due some good luck. Any day now.....Total Debt January 2014 £10,725.44

Just a quick update - the cat is home and feeling very sorry for himself. But I've been assured that animals get used to things quickly. I hope so - the poor little thing looks so sad and confused by it all.
I feel better about the job interview now - somewhere in the middle of the boss rambling on he told me he hated Martin Lewis  How can anyone hate him???!!! So I'm MUCH better off not working for such a sad disillusioned little man
I think I've been granted financial support for the next OU course I need towards my degree. I can't afford to do it without, so that's good. You also get a £250 materials grant too if I remember right, which was going to go in my emergency fund. If I get it I'll be giving it straight to my friend - I gave him £60 straight away, and it came to a total of £451, so If I get he grant that will bring me down to only owing him £190, which would feel a whole lot better. Having said that though, I have to take the cat back for a check up on Friday, and then to have stitches out later, so might have to pay for them first. I'll see what happens.
Right, DD will be home off the school bus in about 10 minutes, (first day at high school!!!), so I'm going to get off here and get a hot chocolate ready for when she gets in

Aww poor wee cat

I don't think I could even look at anyone who hated Martin Lewis, never mind be friends with them or work for them!! :money:
What age is DD? I always got the impression she was quite young.

Ha ha no :rotfl: It seems that everyone else's children are younger than mine so I think I just assumed that she was about 6. Little Miss is 10, 11 next month.
Hope she enjoyed high school.

I think she's enjoying it, thanks!
I've been a bit slack recently, so thought I'd better have a day sorting out loads of fiddly little bits that I've been putting off. So, I've finally got around to sorting out my water bill. I phoned them up 2 months ago to see why I wasn't paying anything, and was told it would be approx £244 for the last 6 months. It finally arrived while I was away, and was only £127! So I've set up a DD which doesn't start until the 1st November (lucky for me I missed the cut-off for October!), of £31 - £21 to cover future usage and £10 to make up the arrears.
I opened a savings account with Tesco a few years ago, and only got around to putting a pound in it. So I've written to them asking for a cheque for the balance and to close the account. Not sure if they'll do it, as they are one of my creditors on my DMP, but I figured it was worth a go.
I STILL haven't got my credit report for Equifax – they are having loads of trouble determining who I am! So I've emailed them yet more documents this morning.
DVLA are chasing me for not taxing a car that was scrapped last year. XOH finally gave me some post that had gone to the old house, and there was a letter from them threatening court action (about 3 wks old, thanks XOH). I tried phoning them but all mitigations must be made in writing..... So a stinking letter will be in the post tonight, explaining that the car was scrapped and that they know because they finally gave me the tax refund a couple of months ago. And I'm sending in copies of all the letters I've sent them proving all this, and proving that they had my new address plenty of times. Just think how cheap car tax could be if they cut down on mistakes! :rotfl:
And, good news....had an interview yesterday - had a call this morning saying I've got the job
:D Not the best hours - 8-4, so DD will be on her own from about 7:15. She's not at her best in the mornings, so hopefully she surprises me and gets on the bus ok. And remembers to lock the door behind her.....
Then, the divorce solicitor I've been trying to get hold of for the last week called me, and we talked it through. I have to go in and start it today, or I won't get Legal Aid (it's based on the last month before the case), so I now have to squeeze that in this afternoon. Be good to get it started though
I start the new job tomorrow  which is a shame, as I had a lunch date with a rather awesome man planned for tomorrow. Actually very gutted - I know we can reschedule, but he is yummy.....
Right - loads to do, off I go

Great news on the job minniepoos :T
It is not ideal starting at 8 but this is the time to give DD a chance to prove herself, make her feel important and give her some responsibility.
Looks like you are getting all the niggly things sorted too which is good.
