Housing has definitely fallen the last several years but I believe it'll fall further. It just doesn't look attractive to me for the price, and as an investment... too hands on. Would rather buy to live in if it came to it.

I know a great many people getting large rents without declaring them.. even after bills etc. Wouldn't be surprised if there were many on this site!

In case anyone needs any motivation.....I currently bank (save) 50% of my monthly net pay, as single person renting with only my income, and 2 feline kids!
I guess it depends if one has a goal!

    Hi All

Am trying to save towards a better retirement - have a small pension but nothing to shout about. What is the best way to hide the money from myself so that can I am not tempted to dip into it?

If you can really & I mean really do without these savings (on the understanding you have another account with your "emergency savings") have a look at regular saver accounts (you have to pay x amount by standing order every month) or even fixed term bonds if you have a lump sum, where the withdrawal penalties are too high in loss of interest!!! ;-)
Although, for tax free in the first instance - I would advise waiting 06/04/13, as there could be a better rate released for the new year...

Thanks, I know I've been a member for a while, but only just recently (last week or so) found all these delightful threads that are so motivating and informative (we still need to read the small print!) & great place to ask questions :T

It's such a shame that the savings threads are so quiet, what a difference to the DFW threads.

With the poor interest rates, most of the savings are been used (in my case) to paying off the mortgage.

I'm still saving for one! Always like to pop on here to see how people are doing but it's just so quiet so makes saving quite lonely.

I read somewhere that 80% of people under 30 believe owning their own property is just a pipe dream....so I guess the DFW threads will get busier in the coming years!
