How much can you save?

I asset allocate per month:
£50 x5 managed stock funds (asia,uk growth, uk dividend, global, stock/bond fund) wrapped up in ISA (£250)
1 gold sovereign coin (tax free) £260-70(currently)
£100 cash (wrapped up in cash ISA)
That represents about 50% of my net take home pay.
I have zero credit cards, zero loans and zero mortgage.
Don't like hoarding cash right now, the idea is long term buy and hold and pound/cost averaging, if i think an asset class is way overpriced then i'd drop it but market timing is tricky.0 -
Yes Hurrah for February!!!
DH and I got paid today so I've just done the budget for Feb and because of various bank holidays and extra shifts we can put away £920 this month woo hoo!! I will update my Sig and also I will have to record it on the £12k in 2013 thread (never done it before).
I hope everyone has had a good month and it would be great to hear how you have all done.Regular saver £200 Saving for emergency fund (£2000)

I haven't posted on this thread for a long time. Lots of changes and my savings were all wiped out last year due to various things.
Once I'm back at work (currently off on long-term sick leave), I can't wait to get back saving money. Although I have no risk of becoming homeless and I certainly won't starve, having no savings in the bank panics me!0 -
yayyy! its ferbruary have not done that bad, amanged to put quite a bit away BUT will have a dip in my expendicture by the end of the month, high phone bill, overdid it with 0845 numbers on my mobile, a handful on night outs planned for this month will probably reduce how much i will be able to save by end of February.

Hi everyone, can I join please?
DH and I have decided we want a new house. With a bit of luck in the house market and interest rates we may even be able to keep the current one. To that end we are saving £1500pm, of which £650 comes from my £1550 net income. We did a guess-timate budget just before Christmas and have trimmed that already by switching utilities suppliers and supermarket. I'm hopeful that we will reach our target and then some but who knows what the future has in store....Mortgage Outstanding Nov '16 £142,772.75Mortgage Additional OPs 2017 Target £4522.80/ Actual £865.00GC Feb 0/£2000 -

Welcome Katzen, amazing what we can save by shopping around and shopping in places like AL*I, best of luck with your saving goal,
Had to use some of my personal spends this month on my dog he has an infection on his front claw the treatment was the same price as my excess so didn't need to claim on the insurance but I will have to put my hairdressers appointment on hold till next month!!:D My poor pooch now has a cone of shame on to prevent him from licking at his sore paw, he looks very sad
Did everybody save their "free" council tax month money or did you go wild and spend it with mad abandonment? this months we saved but next month we are going to use it to book a little camping trip in June. You see I'm not totally obsessed with saving every penny!!Regular saver £200 Saving for emergency fund (£2000)

Another newbie here, just diving in and joining in. Hope that's ok?
Currently I'm saving about 28% of my net salary every month. I can only do this because we managed to pay off the mortgage a few years back - and we don't have kids or any any loans. I also pay 8% of my gross salary into my work pension scheme - it's the max I can pay in on it in order to get the max matched investment from my firm, which is actually 8% + 5% more due to my age and length of service.
I've just signed up on another thread for the £12k savings in 2013 challenge, so will need to up my savings from the current 28% of net in order to achieve it. I think I'll be ditching the daily cappuccino and banning myself from buying any more Clinique make up
Trouble is, in the last six months I've become slightly obsessed with achieving having six months worth of salary saved 'for a rainy day'. Although, I know once I achieve it I'll set myself another financial challenge. I wish I could be so disciplined with the calories!0 -
Hi guys,
Another newbie here! Interesting to here what people are saving and good to no im not the only one out there! Im 24 saving 1500-1750 a month on a net income of about 3000 a month. Been saving for just over a year now and nearly at my target of 20k. Moving to a lower paid job in the next few months for long term prospects so really trying to stay on the straight and narrow to reach my target!:beer:0 -
Hi guys,
I'm currently a student, however I'm on placement this year earning a £15,500 salary. I thought this would be a great time to start saving for life after university. I'm able to save around £350 a month, and I have currently saved up £2,800. I'm hoping to have at least £5000-6000 by the end of this placement in August, and then also save a further £4000 for my final two years at university (as I usually get too much student finance). I'll be really pleased if I can get £10000 savings by the end of university!
After that? I'm hoping to get a secure job whilst renting in a city centre, and with no other commitments, hopefully continue saving. But that's a good two years away! Short term goal, £10k by 2015 for a student?! I hope so!
im in first year uni, currently got saved £2000,
Hopefully for 2015, if i dont do a placement year i hope to have saved around £15000 if i did a placement year hopefully around £20,0000
