Not so good. So I have a HBOS S & S ISA. I set it up 2 years ago before the Lloyds take-over, so the S & S ISA is a bit out-dated because 'Scottish Widows' now manage the investments.

So the meeting was supposed to be to update my investment to the Scottish Widows and increase the amount of money each month. However, I don't have the income for it (I do have savings but that is ill-advised and they recommend that the money comes from income).

The minimum amount each month for Scottish Widows is £150, I'm not sure why in the S & S ISA I have now, I add £20 each month.

Depends on how much one earn and what he has to pay off every month. For e.g. lease, rent etc. So everyone has different amount of money left over, even if you earn the same! Moises Maionica helped me a lot to learn about making Money save. Thank to Moises Maionica.

This is great, my long term goal is a deposit on my first house for my family. Realistically I can start this nov/dec this year but until then I need to save up for a new car, looking at £4k. Fed up of having carp cars so would like one that I dont worry is going to break down when I'm on the M5! I have AA cover but it's no fun breaking down with young children in the back. I have £500 saved but need to buy a bed as the ex took his back last month, not looking to spend more than £50 ideally as I'll buy a lovely French one to go in my new hone one day :D so for now a second hand pine one I can paint white will do me grand.

    £500/ £4000
    £20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**

It would be nice to have more posters of people with lower incomes like myself, I think we are all scared away by the examples of people saving a 1k+ a month!

    I plan to save a minimum £300 a month

My current bank is only £3000 and I plan to have £5000 by the end of the year

Snow queen, I'm the same, a single parent on a low income but topping it up anyway I can...like having students solidly for 6 weeks and netting £2k! :D

i'm not on a high income! I think im doing well if I manage to save £250/month because that is £3k/year if I can stick to it!
  • hi guys new to this!

thought id join as i used to save a lot but over the last year not as much (i blame uni n alcohol!)

im 22 full time student and wrk part time. i have another 2 years left of uni and want to have enough saved for a deposit on a house and go travelling!

    i currently have:

21000 invested in stocks/shares (this has now halved :-( to around 11000 but hoping this will pick up by the time i leave uni! really just want to break even and get my money back!)

18600 in isas and 1000 in instant access sav.

    my debts are:

3500 student o/d (pay no interest)
    1900 c/c (interest free til feb 13)

and a student loan which i think is about 10k but no sure will phone up tomox n get a balance, im not worried about this as i dont mind paying it back throughout my career!

i study finance (yes lol i shud no better) and have used all the tips from martin to try n save where possible and now im planning to go away travelling nxt summer for 3 months too!

just looking for some motivation and guidence where possible as i think im nt doing to great!

    thanks
