It's funny you say "why can't I be like that" you are like the rest of us with higher totals. For me it never feels like enough and it never feels quite as exciting as you thought it would reaching a target. That's the great thing nd that's what drives you on.
I didn't save any money at university so youre doing fantStically to do so. You'll be so well practised at it that your total will storm up when you get a full time job afterwards. Have patience but know that your imptience is a good thing!

I think you're doing really well and to have £4,500 as a student is simply amazing! I left uni with a massively overdrawn account (still got it :( ) and no real savings to speak of! I think your paying for things in advance sounds like its going well and hopefully when you leave uni you should have a pile of money because youll get your deposit back and you'll not have to pay 6 months more rent!
I think its hard to budget etc. when you're getting loan payments and its not really a regular income but it sounds like you're doing fine!!
Also, when you finish uni (i dont know how long you have left) you should have that money to either live off if you can't get a job immediately, or to start towards a house deposit or a car, or a wedding or something (I don''t know what youre life goals are) so what if it means the money will be gone, it will be spent on something good and worthwhile!

I didn't really think of it that way. Thanks. I also have about four months left on my course before I go into the world of proper working

Yeah, you're right, about it never feeling like enough, but that would be a good thing like you say, it just makes me want to save more. Which right now sucks, as most of my money goes into savings, but in the future, I'll be able to look back and say it was worth it.

Updating, during the last week and a half, during eBays free listing weekend, I went through my bookshelf, and took out some comic stuff that I thought I would not read again, or if I wanted again, I could buy cheap on Amazon if I ever wanted, which I rarely do.

Anyway, I sold 7 out of 8 books for a total of £25, which I've already got transferring to my savings account. I've also taken out the eBay, PayPal and shipping fees out of that, so it's pure savings now.

    Bringing me up to £4,525.01.
£5,400 saved so far. Saving for the future.
  • well done to everyone especially the young ones who are saving...very heartwarming to see the young 'uns saving up!

I have managed to save £750 up to press despite extra expenses (car failed MOT etc) and intending to put another £130 in which was destined for council tax but the bill hasnt come yet so I'll save it instead ;)

I got funding from work for my open uni course for next year which I am pleased about as it is around £800

You don't have to beat yourself up because in your own mind you don't think you are saving as much as other people.

The habits you have developed up to now will be repeated throughout your life and I think you will NEVER be short of money. It seems to me you are the type who has magnificently adapted to your situation and you will cope with whatever life throws at you.

You have crossed the Rubicon, you have an innate inner strength, and that will never leave you. You should say thanks to yourself because I was £42,000 grand down when I acquired your mind set. I am now debt free but I still continue my DFW habits, enjoy my life, and can sleep at night.

    Keep up the good work!

SuaveStar - I echo what others have said, you are doing phenomenally well to save while still a student, well done! I left university with about a fiver to my name (but no debts, thankfully) and have only been saving since I've been working. So you are well ahead of most of us!

Thank you BusPass and Tara for your comments. They've sort of brought me up from thinking "I only have this much saved" to now sort of thinking "Look how much I've saved!......And I'm still carrying on the saving."

I've decided to take some of the money out of my savings, and put it towards driving lessons, and a provisional license. I know petrol costs, are incredibly hight right now. But when I do enter the work market, I'm going to need some sort of photo ID, and I've wanted to learn how to drive for years. So, in a way, it should be worth it.

Also, my savings interest is calculated daily, and I'm on a good interest savings account 2.7% until 25th of April this year. So the money I've put into savings, has already paid off something, so now, to take out some of that money and work it towards my future.
£5,400 saved so far. Saving for the future.

I'm currently looking for a permanent job as I am only working through a supply agency as a Nursery Nurse. I am off to Uni part time in September to train as a Teacher so can continue to work and would love to be able to move in with my boyfriend so need to get saving!

Ideally I'd love to have £1000 saved by the end of this year. At the moment only working on a 'as and when needed basis' that's easier said than done so am aiming for £500 until I can get a permanent job and can save more.
    Saved: £1566.53/ £2000
