I should say that we currently have £80,000 of savings and we need to make this money work as hard as possible for us. We have money in ISAs, saving accounts and regular savers. Should we diversify and spread into bonds or even put a small fraction into a FTSE tracker- anyone know any good ones that guarantee a return (or atleast not lose any).
Thanks in expectation!:D0 -

i am just joining this thread. Me and partner are saving hard to try and buy a house as an investment for our futures. At the moment we try and put over £1000 away each month and its amazing how the balance grows, but its never quick enough is it? trying to keep other costs down is a bit of a nightmare, we still manage holidays but do live frugally. i only started saving at start of my 30s after being totally irresponsible with money in my 20s, so feel i have a lot of catching up to do. Also putting around £800 a month into my pension so getting there slowly but i am so hard on myself sometimes, i guess you have to be otherwise i would fall back into bad habits.:j0

The minute I feel safe enough to have my house in a Thai beach resort, my flat in Bangkok and enough cash savings to generate £3000 a month interest before my pension fund kicks in, is the moment I down tools, tell my boss to have a nice life, and walk out of here with a smile on my face, and joy in my heart.
That is one huge income you'll have if you've not got to pay rent/mortgage and you have an income pm of over £3000 plus pension! Not sure I could even spend that much without having to make an effort to splash out - £100 per day!

Ah boooo.
Paid this morning. Balance now £105. Boo.
Paid rent, bills, and overdraft off (after buying Reading 2010 tickets!!!!!).
Need to buy mothers birthday present, which is currently sold out at JL so not sure what to do now. That £100 has to last 2 weeks before I get paid extra monies from grandparents, should be ok. Just means I can't go out really, nevermind. Topped up my Asda discount card, so shopping I can afford.0 -
