Sweetmate: I know what you mean about the car. Mine is my pride and joy, but is desperate for a new hood. The current one is the original one of the car (10 years old) and lets her down a bit. Unfortunately they're circa £500  'Fraid she's going to have to wait until my savings are looking a bit healthier.

My ickle old Ford Fiesta had to have its clutch changed a couple of weeks ago which was very expensive eek.

Just updated by savings as my student loan came through. I went out of my overdraft into the black, transferred money straight over to savings and went straight back into the red :rotfl:

    Hello everyone!

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a nice break - isn't it nice to be away from work? (for those who were!) I did better than i thought in the Christmas money stakes and managed to bank £1200 (including my usual monthly £400) for December. Running total now stands at £13,265 so i think i can comfortably aim for £20k by the end of the year. I'm nearly at £3600 in my pre-ISA pot so will be ready to do the transfer in full come April. I'm hoping they put the ISA allowance up in the Budget actually but we'll see!

Hope everyone gets off to a flying start in 09!

Awww thats nice of him. I've got the same from my dad every xmas. A tub of popcorn and £50 (however I will admit, this year it was £60).

So far I spent overbudget on something but my car insurance was less tha I budgetted for (woo), still annoying though as it hasn't come out of my account, nor available balance and I 'paid' for it more than a week ago. Meh.

Just thinking I might be able to put more into my S&S ISA this month, I can't do it until late Jan anyway but keep thinking I could do it.

Had my first exam, went ok, better than I thought. Now have one tomorrow morning uurrrrrgh.

The rates on my savings accounts are getting beyond a joke now :(

2% on my savings and 2.8% on my ISA :(

On the up side though, my regular saver is fixed at 5% until january 2010 :)

Not always, if you go through quidco, some gambling sites pay more cashback than you have to deposit! Mecca Bingo pays £30 for a £10 deposit and play. Risk free gambling as long as you dont deposit more!

thanks for the advice but for somebody like myself or dazcouz its not really worth the hassle because we would only end up wasting a good bit of money.

I like the tories idea of abolishing tax on the interest on our savings.

Its a good idea, but how much is it really going to save us with interest rates so shockingly low?
