true, i'd lock it up if I could but this is the savings which I need access to at short notice. After looking around i'm gonna stay where I am for a week or 2 and let everyone do what they will with their rates at the start of the month then i'm gonna go for it, as even if it's only 3.5% I can do a lot better than the ING rate!

As I'm freelance/contract I need to be able to access my savings at short notice just in case I don't earn anything/get paid in a particular month.

Hence why, when I got my money back from KE, I simply stuck it in HSBC's online bonus saver (currently 3.25% – down from 5.25% – in any month you don't withdraw and 1.5% when you do withdraw). The bonus for me (obviously NOT the rate! LOl!) is that I can instantly transfer money between that and my HSBC current account, making it about as accessible as it's possible to be.

    Hi all

Got paid on Friday and reached another milestone - I'm now a few quid shy of £92k :j

I checked back through my old posts and 12 months ago I said I had £71k. In June I said I had £80k and that I hoped to have £100k by April-time next year (as that was when I was originally planning to leave the country). So it looks like that's feasible, esp as not much of the June-present savings have been made up of interest: I have a lot of fixed-term accounts and interest is paid at maturity. Speaking of which, I have one maturing on 7th December and another on the 15th. Then I have to wait until February for a couple of others, then it's my ISA in April.

I'm trying to find homes for the matured funds (easy access accounts) but it's proving difficult what with the interest rate cuts - as soon as you open one, the rate gets dropped - my only consolation is that I'll be spending my money next year and won't need to worry so much about the savings rates!

Hope everyone else is doing OK.

    Suze

    Cheers!

Yeah, I stayed up well late last night - not sure why. Got up comparatively early this morning for some reason - thought I'd be too knackered for that!

  • Hi Suze,

Well done, that is great. You still leaving? Can't remember if you said you had decided to stay and buy a house here?

    Thanks :D

No, I'm staying now - bf and I are going to buy a house together. All the while the prices were rocketing, I was saving hard, ready to pounce when the crash came. So I'm almost ready to pounce!!!

Good thing too as the days of the 90%+ mortgages are gone! Luckily my savings mean we should be able to borrow whatever we need!
