One thing that strikes me is that most of us that want an FI board are on MFW, or maybe DFW ... the Pensions people didn't get involved. I like the idea of some of the restructuring boards comments too - and in fact, a lot of people on mfw are already mortgage free, like Goldie and me. I'm here because its friendly and its okay to have a detailed diary - I like Marine Life's diary, but its not nearly detailed enough for what I need, and there's no point doing it on my own.

I'm like ed - this happens all the time with my work (with my professional association, anyway). Somebody suggests something that sounds really simple, and there are suddenly half a dozen papers written about it, and each one has 3 or 4 letters in the Comments section of the magazine ...

Gally, I'm still glad you spoke up too, hope it hasn't upset you.

I've stepped away from that thread now.

In retrospect I probably shouldn't have posted some of what I posted, but I felt there was a comment that was rather disrespectful, and I couldn't just leave it:o

I agree with GG, as this is a mortgage board, maybe some people focus their diary on that area, and don't post about their pension arrangements.

I think others, especially people who've just taken out their very first mortgage, are very focused on the mortgage, but if they stay around the forums long enough, start to think about the bigger picture, and their diary gradually evolves.

I've enjoyed looking at Marine Life's diary, but his financial situation is very different to most people's, so it's quite difficult to relate to. Also it's more about the 'numbers', rather than his day to day life.

I feel more comfortable detailing my day to day life with people who are more like me, and live a similar life. If seems more 'real' here.

Thanks for your posts, Goldie ... I was going "yes", "yes", "yes" all the way through. I went to that thread first when I came back online just now, but I didn't post ... yep, its more real here. I'd be very reluctant to post if the FI sub-board did open in the Pensions Board.

  • GG - please don't steer well clear.

Honestly I am  that you would consider so doing

Sticks and stones and all that. :(

However you have often said how unfriendly other boards can be. Now you are sampling it - although you may being a bit sensitive. Remember, as an outsider, you are infiltrating "their" board and you need to convince them your idea is sound. I like the title you are proposing.

But - please don't lose any sleep over it (if losing sleep is at all possible in your case) :)

    See you Friday :j:j

Too busy losing sleep over other stuff :rotfl:. And weird dreams when I do - last night Miss Tilly was jumping in a swimming pool, fully clothed, in the UK, in the middle of winter, as Mr Tilly's umbrella had blown away and she thought it was in the pool. Nope, I have no idea either :rotfl:.

So, that Christmas thing is just around the corner. Luckily I'm so far behind I haven't even written a to do/get list so am still living in a state of blissful denial (sort of like James Murdoch's culpable ignorance ;)).

But I accept that I need to get my finger out :(.

It appears that desparation is the source of inspiration.
