:kisses3::kisses3::kisses3: Hello lovely people! Thank you!

A good night out was had - lovely freshly cooked Thai food, good people (including one who got back from California that morning, good lord, some friends of mine have stamina!).

It was in a party town, however, and I confess, I felt a wee bit frumpy on the way to the station - "of course you dress up in layers for the cold", you say - erm, not in party town, you don't, its like Newcastle! A few people did condescend to put coats on, but not many.

Its galvanised me, actually - I didn't have a lot to contribute to my own birthday party.... now, okay, I had the stress of moving house, which only dissipated this autumn, and I've been badly ill for the past two winters; but even though I had a bad time in September this year, I've not actually been ill.

Time to get a move on. This is going to be hampered by the op on my shoulder in late January, but I'm not going to be in this situation again.

The day after your birthday seems an appropriate day for that kind of charge :j:j:j

Glad you had a nice evening. In what way do you think you did not have a lot to contribute though? I am sure that you did but interested in why you feel that?

Good question Mrs Moo! You wouldn't be comparing your 'one person story' to ALL of your friends' stories put together would you?? NOt saying you are, but it can sometimes happen, you know, 'I've only moved house and been ill, and my friends have been gadding around the world/changed jobs/got married/been president of a small nation/painted 75 portraits/trined a new dog/redecorated their entire house', while all along each of those friends is thinking 'KC's relocated her entire life to a new town and made new friends and found lots of fabulous things to do, and she's bee poorly too, and all I've done is painted walls' etc....

Whatever it turns out to be, I agree that the day after your birthday is a fabulous day to start thinking about the upcoming year and what you want more of in it :T :T
  • Have to agree with MrsMoo, in what way did you not contribute? Do you mean you weren't the life and soul, all dancing on tables etc. Or just in what you've done over the year?
In which case I suggest you look back at your diaries and your blog, and see what you've done.
Its absolutely no use comparing yourself to others. A while ago I remember you talking about someone (your partners wife(?)) who had been for a long country walk and bemoaning the fact that you can't do that and that other people can. But as was pointed out at the time, that's an unfair comparison, people build up over years to that sort of activity level.

Totally understand about the wanting to have layers though. Years ago, when I worked in a pub in town centre, the number of people who were out in short sleeves or skimpy dresses etc when there was snow on the ground (!) used to horrify me. I'd sooner be warm.
Many decisions get made on the day after birthdays.

:o:o:o Thats me told good and proper :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

You're all completely right, all of you! :kisses3:

Two things I'm picking up from this, actually: its a confirmation that the friend I've been drifting away from, I *am* drifting away from, and I've *never* had her energy levels anyway, so yah boo sucks, get over it KC! Because I was imagining this morning what it would have been like if it had just been my partner and his wife ... answer, much better. Okay, thats a done deal.

The other thing is complementary - that its you guys I'm saying it to!

Cheery's examples of what the others have been doing is uncannily accurate, if you substitute "Fellow of a national organisation" for "president of a small country" :D:D:D (and omit the fact that I haven't made local friends yet, but see below for that )

So ... I've looked at the dates for two local astronomy clubs, and also at zumba classes. After all, I'm looking after my health better - manuka, vitamins, less stress, flu jab - I can do it!

Cheery took out of my head what I was wondering exactly. That is what I thought you were feeling because I had just read Hypnos yearly status on FB tried mine and boy was it dull....... then I thought that it was more a case that what I find interesting to hear about others lives is not how I want to live my life and I am sure that is the case vice versa. You have done so much this year. I was just remembering your excitement about the wedding and learning (was it?) polish and helping to do all the arrangements for everybody. Your posts yesterday echoed that excitement. So I guess you are actually a social butterfly deep down. What did you post on MGs thread about the lion having confidence in his heart? (it made me cry it was so lovely).

Zumba....... it looks like great fun when I watch it at the gym I keep threatening to sign up to it.

There's a part of me thats *very* social - I always used to be forcing it, but I don't any more, and I guess its about going out there again in a non-forced way. I know all the way through that I can get on with anyone - people find me a bit intimidating sometimes (I'll never forget meeting the Bishop of Warrington a few years ago and trying to put him at ease in this tiny little family situation - when he heard what I did, he sort of backed away in terror and talked to my sister-the-teacher :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And a very good question it is, too. There are quite a few things that would make me feel happier, and some of them are even to do with money - having the heating on as often as I want, rather than as little as I think is safe; having more of a social life - trains to see people, cups of coffee to sit with, tickets to go to things; knowing that my food is organic, that sort of thing.

On a deeper level, I need friends who are more sympatico with me - much like you lovely lot :j:j:j

Some lovely thoughtful posts today KC. I love the Dr Seuss quote. He wrote the Grinch too I think. I must read more of his stuff.
As for the things that would make you happier. I think all of those things are the kind of things that do make a person happy..... more so than the big stuff. Like tonight I decided to go to see Matthew Bournes Nutcracker being shown live at the Art Centre Cinema (made me laugh because it said live (recorded).)
Went to get the ticket and they were sold out :( That is what I get for uhhmming and ahhingg.
