You know it's going to be desperate when MPs decide to reform their pension scheme. However "desperate" for them is not decided as to how bad the economy is, but as to how many of them are testing the tensile strength of lamposts by hanging from them with their necks...

Pensions, sometimes I just want to stick my fingers in my ears and say "I'm not listening to you, you're not listening to me!"
I'm sort of with DT in a way, we're the same age, so I've know for a while that 65 was my pensionable age, but it keeps getting a bit further away. And again, like Cheri, I've always worked in the public sector. Not as a highly paid 'fat cat' but as an ordinary admin/clerical job, on low pay, but with a decent pension, which is getting eroded all the time. That's not even thinking about the state pension.

The best I can say is, we're all going through a lot of pain on this one. I don't want this to turn into who's got it worse, which is a Game in my family sometimes

Oh yes, I do understand the "you don't understand how hard it is for me in my high paid job, with an index linked pension and a subsidised mortgage, and no debts" - and you're completely right, the reality is, nobody is going to get out of this scot free. So the sensible ones, US, will have a plan and we can ignore it all.
Years ago I fancied the idea of the island away from anyone, but now I realise that I like the facilities of a town too much. But I could probably manage on far less if I lived somewhere else. Absolutely .... sigh .... earlier this year, I was looking on rightmove at rented flats in Spain (a year's lease) - somewhere like Estepona had one bed flats on at E300 per month .... I could rent out my house at much more than that. Or I could buy a little motor boat over there
It has to be a town! Yes, I like the facilities of a town too much, and they're more important as you get older, sadly.
Still, there's enjoyment to be had too:D:D
I had a little walk last night, midsummer's night, the path into the nature reserve has re-opened after being resurfaced because of brownfield building works .... took a new path, saw more lovely, quiet leafy streets - *so* close to everything, but so quiet. Talk about the facilities of a town, too right! And I came back and got out into the garden - cutting back grass and sedge, then putting weedkiller on the sedge - this is the area where I plan to sink an old drawer into the ground to plant my mint. Then the sedge will be dug up and more fruit will be planted, maybe an espalier to take advantage of the fence.
Today, I'm carrying on with my existing list - curtains, plasterwork, sorting the new phone, checking whether I can charitise the clothes I plucked from the wardrobe a few days ago.
Trading beckons. Right now! :cool:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Thanks! Yep, the grass is finally getting cut - tho not with the electric lawnmower my sister gave me
Its so long I can cut big chunks with the shears, and stuff it straight in a sack - I can't put it in the compost bin, its full of seed. Can't lay it on the patio for the birds, either, as it encourages the ants
but my brother's solution seems to be the best one for me - plant so much stuff that you don't have much lawn :j:j:j and incidentally, feed yourself
Trading is a bit jammed up at the mo, so I'm off to get some brekkie.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
