Funny you should say this, El. I obviously did like the book - although there is one point where I think one should be very careful. Although we need to identify things that are 'time-sucks' and unimportant and not do them, different things are important for different people and groups. And in organisation one should work with others (the selfish part of productivity should be negated a bit). Works well for people working for themselves, I beleieve.
Timmy boy does get a bit didactic on it, doesn't he  and I agree, in organisations, you actually have to have relationships with people, you can't just do "what do you need, now go away". And as a self employed person, I don't have *that* need, but for all of us, we can only employ that technique to a certain degree - it may be an American saying (oops) but "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar" applies here, I think.

Loved the fact that there were 'Questions and actions' sections rather than 'answers'. But a lot about finding a muse and the practical arrangemets will have to be 'translated' for Europe and the UK.

Absolutely - he's a single American man, born in the mid 1970s, no way could he (or anyone else) write a book in which everything applies to everyone who'll read it. I'm enthused about the principle - I'll lean on the book for *some* practices, but not everything translates to a 50s English woman committed to England for the next 5 years. Thats okay!

Ooh, and I'll bring my breakfast over to the laptop to check out your blog now its up and running :)

Hey KC welcome back. Oh you do make me miss Liverpool from the descriptions you give. I love Liverpool very much indeed. Such a fantastic city and warm, loving, friendly, funny people.
It was wonderful, it was just fantastic, actually. My brother has that Scouse you-should-be-a-standup-comedian sense of humour, but he's in a lot of pain right now from his back, so there wasn't so much in evidence - he gets a lot of material for that from the chickens they have now :D

You sound so energised that I am sitting here feeling shamed into action. I must read this book, I have signed up to his blog and started reading over there so I hope to understand some of what you talk about. Elimination is a good one. I have culled my FB friends this week. Got tired of reading some updates from people who I have no idea how I befriended. Felt good. I have also unsubscribed to several email updates from various things and deleted some threads on here. It is quite liberating. I realised I was starting to feel guilty for not keeping up now that is just silly.
I understand that, I really do - if I try to keep up with all the threads of all the people I know on here, it will take an hour a day, and if I'm going to repair my income, I just don't have that computer time :(

Amazing that you have decided not to renew your TV licence. Only thing I caution about is that you will now start to get letter of the harassing variety from TV licencing because they just dont believe that people have a life!
Gulp. There is a no-TV option on the website that they mention, and I'll go there. They're welcome to come and check, and since I'm telling the truth, letters don't intimidate me - just mean more paper for the recycling bin. The only thing that might make me get the licence *now* is that if I decide to go back to one, for instance if my mum comes down here, they'll make me backdate to the last time I had one - I'll check that.

Glad to see you up and happy look forward to seeing you progress.
I do feel much more positive - I'm so glad I booked that little break away :j:j:j and I'm so glad I found Timmy's book :) through FW.

For now, breakfast, FW's blog, a pm to You Are All Helping Me for help with the laptop and printer talking to one another, and then clearing up ready for clients.

I hope everyone has a good day, full of bounciness if not sunshine - its kind of hazy here :money: oh one last bit, I just bagged a free Grand Designs weekday ticket - it'll help for the green website, I'll be v focussed.

    Morning KC!

Your enthusiasm is infectious - glad to hear you back to yourself! - really needed that cheery boost this morning:)

Thanks for the update on Timmie's book - will need to give it a read & pull out a lesson or two from it - went onto the library catalogue to see if they had it - alas no, but they do have his new one - something about a 4-hour body - may have a look through that & see about purchasing his first one!

Your family research is just facinating - OH now wants to find out more about his roots! - I have an uncle who's delved deep into our closet and found all kinds of gargoyles - lol - and have also discovered the amazing use of fb for sharing old family photos across the many continents we are all now on.

Even if you did just the "elimination" bit, about working more efficiently *and* more effectively, I reckon it would be worth the price. I also borrowed my niece's book "Online Business for Dummies", haven't read that yet, and its older, but it has the British slant....

Its amazing what comes up! Its not a side of the family I've been hugely attracted to, the fascination comes of my grandmother on that side being completely unknown, even to my dad, as she died when he was 3 years old .... but that little family and his parents are a study of English life in the 19th century: an agricultural labourer, Caleb, whose wife became the postmistress, and whose son moved away to work as a clerk on the railways. The son moves into a classic English semi in the nearest town by the time he's middle aged; the daughters spread out across England and Wales, and their offspring further still. But they're real people, and I have pictures of them and anecdotes about them... wonderful. If your OH wants to start, drop me a pm and I'll pm a bit about starting.

Yep, I'm surprised it was available as it was mentioned in last week's newsletter while I was away, but I guess not many people are free during the week.

It certainly brightened up here, its been lovely.

Hiya! I didn't have time to drop by your thread this morning - still had cleaning to do to get the place looking respectable for visits... that all went well, but I've still got 1.5 hours to do.

Hope everyone is doing well

Hey KC not much time to post at the moment. Sad and lonely in a cardiff hotel room. Thought of you as I am right next to the Dr Who Exhibition.
Re TV licence, no you just start paying from the month you decide to get one. Can start and stop if you sign up to pay monthly. As for the letters I just ignore them. I have put no tv licence option on website but they still send them. They are quite threatening to be honest so dont let them worry you. Apparantly it is the way they get people (even pensioners who dont have a tv) to pay up easily.
