Hellooooooo
just catching up on all the posts, phewwww there's alot! its great that its still moving quickly, shows we are all still motivated:T
Patentgirl - I know everyone has been extremely supportive of your redundancy on here and i hope you find some comfort and reasurrance in this, i too would like to say how sorry i am to here about your redundancy. I always believe in life us humans have a way of working things out and i'm sure all will work out just fine for you.
Well an expensive day for me yesturday, finally replaced my car tyre (was supposed to do this at the weekend) i had budgeted for this but i still HATE paying for car repairs, they just seem to eat your money
All in all i'm really pleases with my financial achievements in january, mainly because i think more before i spend, this has enable me to save a bit and has given us a little more liquid money.
I have a student loan that costs me £180 per month  i had this over 5 years and still have 2.5 years left, be sooooo glad when this is paid off :T
Bye for now and wishing you all a good day. x0 -
i.m.Hart Yes you can freeze grated cheese, it doesnt matter if its frozen in bags or container, i personally would portion it off into freezer bags, but you could do either.
BTW when i say "liquid money" i mean spare cash to buy things for the house, save a bit extra, clothes for my boys etc.0 -
Good morning everyone.
I have a quick question im sure i have read on here that you can freeze grated cheese, is that correct and do you put it in tubs or bags or doesnt it matter?
i've never frozen grated cheese but i often freeze cheese like Stilton bought in the jan sales. i cut into inch chunks, wrap with cling film and then pop in them all in a chinese tub.
an inch is plenty for stilton and brocoli soup which i love and co-indidentally made yesterday (what else am i to do for dinner when there's only 1 large potatoe and a few florets of brocoli!:))
sorry, that doesnt really ansewr your question.Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
Sorry to hear your bad news patentgirl. We've been waiting for months to hear about the axe falling so the feelings of dread have been very real for us. Thankfully we have a happy ending this time and DH has been told his job is safe (for now). Fingers crossed and positive thoughts to anyone else with this hanging over them.
I have been reading if not posting. Don't really have much to report, it feels like I've done nothing but spend recently but it's all been Christmas and birthday money so nothing to hurt our budget. Today we're having some groceries delivered - 20% off 0cad0 and only £1.99 delivery, so I've bought enough to fill the freezer and keep us in dried food for a good old while.
Yess it is possible to freeze grated cheese. We stick it in a tub, but that's because I'm too much of a tightwad to buy food bags.0 -
has anyone else noticed that Amazon has a bad tendency to put the price of something up just before you buy it, when it's been really low for the last 3 days whilst you were thinking about it?!? the super dooper sports watch i was going to get has just gone up by 12quid, which makes it out of reach reallyRelax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. EFC - what a pain when you lose your post. Glad you managed to find it! Somebody (sorry, forget who cos of bad memory) suggested typing it up in a word-processing program (like Microsoft Word) and it's a good idea because you can save it so it won't get deleted. It will be easy once you are shown how but I find it hard to explain things when I'm not sitting down beside someone! Just had a thought - does your library have computer classes? I think some of them have free classes, also in the Adult Education Centres.
Erme - congrats on paying more off your debt! :T:j:T Sounds like a good idea to make rest a priority, hope you catch up on sleep and rest. xGood morning everyone.
I have a quick question im sure i have read on here that you can freeze grated cheese, is that correct and do you put it in tubs or bags or doesnt it matter?Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Regarding the freezing of grated cheese, I buy bags of the ready grated stuff from Mr S, because if I grate it myself I (a) grate my fingers as well and (b) eat all the small/medium/large bits that I can't grate!
I use it for lots of things, like cheese sauce, macaroni cheese, sprinkling over spaghetti, cheese on toast. I just put some on a plate half an hour before I need it (not necessary if using in cheese sauce), and it defrosts very quickly. HTH

Patentgirl - really sorry to hear of your redundancy, my friend's dad was rung up on Monday and told not to come into work as the company had gone into receivership, it's soo frightening it seems to be happennig more and more. I hope you get a good payout and find something else.
Erme - well done for complaining about PO lady, I don't think we complain enough in this country! Hope you're ok and well done on your sale.

Just had the shopping delivered (the delivery was 50 minutes early and they phoned to check I was in), it's taken me nearly an hour to put it all away. I now have probably enough dried beans to last until December at least (and we eat lots of beans). DH couldn't believe how much we got for £65 and I got extra brownie points for buying him plenty of bread flour! Plus some of the stuff did come in a bottle carrier so the bunnies get their free toy! Win win win.
Not really anything to do with anything but I do get excited when I see my pantry full.0
