Hey peeps, don't know if anyone remembers me ranting about having to go to Pizza Express for my nephew's second birthday this weekend...:o

Anyway, DH bumped into his sister in the town today and asked if we could drop his presents round tomorrow night as his birthday is tomorrow and she said they are having a birthday tea for him round my MIL's so we could drop them there.

I am now :( and a little bit  because we haven't been invited to it. I've told DH that I don't feel comfortable dropping round when we're not invited to the actual tea.

This has just upset me a bit. :o And makes me wonder why I bother trying to please them when they make me feel so fed up. :( Sorry, rant over, and not a frugal post! I'll try to do some more reading back this afternoon. :)
    Hi Lily
Families  RU going to pizza express? I would drop the presents round tomorrow so you have seen him and then say you aren't feeling well on the day of the meal and don't go!

It's a nightmare trying to please everyone and then like you say when they don't consider you it makes you wonder why you bother!

I now try and concentrate on my little family, DH and 2 DS' and everyone else can please themselves due to past family experiences that I shan't go into!

I do feel for you hun, just keep smiling and money saving xxx

Happy birthday to those that have them coming up soon, hope you have fab days xx

Good luck in the run Cheryl.

Hope everyone else is smiling today, (((hugs))) if you need them.

I am off to pick up DS (walking) in a min, got to post a couple of parcels but postage is paid for so NSD for me today, good job after yesterday!

Just planned meals for the weekend / next week, I have a friend coming for lunch on Sat, am going to make the lemon cake recipe so thank you for that, sorry I can never remember who has posted what!

OMG Lily, no wonder you feel :( and . You are obviously caring and thoughtful, and it is very sad when others aren't the same. I wonder if your SIL is assuming that you know that you are welcome? No? Well, if not, nail a smile on your face, and if they ask you to stay for tea, do so, and if the don't even offer you a tea or coffee after about 20 minutes, say "Well, we won't keep you. Have a lovely birthday party" and leave - knowing that you are a far better person. :A

IAITM - I laughed about your aunt's choice of outfit. Sounds like she's very flamboyant!!

Poor you, bit of a slap in the chops. Don't know what to suggest really, she sounds like a right one!

Lily - at least you needn't feel guilty now if you decide not to go to Pizza Express. On the other hand maybe it's a compliment to you - that they're using it as an excuse to spend time with you - don't think there would be as much opportunity for that at the mayhem of a childrens' birthday tea. Or perhaps she thought you wouldn't enjoy that and suggested pizza as something you might prefer. Either way, I don't think you should do the pizza if you really don't want to or can't afford to.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Well I have just canceled two magazine subscriptions - they don't make it easy do they -had to write a letter for one but although magazines are my addiction and treat (along with sweet chilli sauce 10.gif I'm finding it hard to keep up and want to get back into reading more books, which I have a huge pile of to get through too!

We all need a moan sometimes Lily, just see how it pans out and don't stress. x
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

Thanks Nat, I can see why you concentrate on your own family. :) Yes I gave in and just said yes to Pizza Express to keep the peace, plus I thought it was all they'd be doing for his birthday! I said to DH at the time, tea and cake would surely suffice?

Well that's the thing, SIL said to DH that their mum is doing a birthday tea for him. That's what makes it so odd. MIL is normally good and would invite us to something like that, so can only think SIL said not to.:mad::mad:

Well that's the thing though... there will only be MIL, SIL, BIL and nephew there at the birthday tea, that's why I thought it was odd we hadn't been invited. And MIL is coming on Saturday as well. It just seems a bit odd. Why have they had to organise a special meal out?

    Thanks Ruby. :)
  • Just one more thing on this subject... we can't possibly confront SIL about any of this because we've done that about stuff in the past and she just cries! *rollseyes* As does the MIL. *rollseyes again* They get what they want with emotional blackmail, then when confronted about stuff put on the waterworks so that I look like the bad guy!:mad::mad:
