Please could some one explain how these restaurant.com gift certificates work? If I buy say a $50 one for $25 and the terms say minimum purchase $35 does that mean the bill is to come to at least $35 before I use the voucher? or is there somewhere on this thread I can go and read up.... thanks

    ARIA

What I didn't like tho (and maybe we missed a trick here) was the trek to get to the strip. We went through Crystals, caught the tram to the Bellagio and then walked all the way through Bellagio! 20/25 minutes each way.....don't get me wrong, we dont mind walked but it was a bit much and would put us off staying again.

awesome trip report, you've got me itching to go back!!!

just a heads up on your journey to the strip... you really did take the long way round, almost going back on yourself!

all you had to do was walk out the front of the hotel, down the access/sideroad between the Mandarin Oriental / Veer Towers (linky) and you're on the Strip in about 2mins! you come out opposite Polo Towers, CVS just to your right and Crystals just to the left.

Say you buy a $50 voucher for $25, and the terms state you must spend at least $100. This means your bill should come to $100, then the voucher is applied which deducts $50. Then the $25 cost of the voucher effectively means you're getting $100 of food/drink for $75.

However, don't pay full price for the vouchers on restaurant.com - there are always 60/70/80/90% off voucher codes floating about. This means that you can get, for example, a $50 voucher for as little $5. So ultimately you would get $100 of food for $55, which is almost half price. Very good deal.

I was in Vegas in June and used these vouchers every day (BB Kings, House of Blues, Lolitas Cantina, Stripburger, Gameworks etc.), they work a treat every time.

Isn't it also the case that you have to add 18% gratuity and tax (8.1%)on the pre-discounted total?

So the final cheque would look something like this:

    Meal Cost 100.00
    + Gratuity 18.00% 118.00
    + Tax 8.10% 127.56
    - Voucher 50.00 77.56
    + Voucher Cost 5.00 82.56
    Saving 45.00

I haven't actually used one of these yet, so this is an assumption on my part. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

the saving is actually less than that - because you probably wouldn't leave an 18% tip normally and the sales tax (where applicable) would not be calculated on the bill amount + 18%.

It's still a good deal though - but less so great if you have to order more than you would normally do just to meet the minimum spend.

One other thing, do you need to print out the voucher to take to the testaurant or can you show it on an email on the iPhone? Just wondering, coz if I was in Vegas and bought one while I was there would have no way of printing... Thanks again

pretty sure you need to print the voucher. Most hotels will have business centres where you can print if necessary (but check the costs first!).

On you calculations the savings are more than that as the sales tax is added before the tip. But of course does depend on the size of tip normally left, I left 20% at Texas de Brazil last month

As others have said they are only good value when bought at the 80% off rate (or as yesterday 90% off never seen 90 before).

Why not just buy a couple before you go, and print off at home, there are plenty on here who have eaten at many of the restaurants on r.com if you are looking for recomendations, as above though make sure you buy them at the vastly discounted prices.
