The tax problem:
Well, when I was up at Mam's for the 7 weeks at end of the year, I got tax demands for 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 for underpayments of tax totalling £1445   I got Mr 3dogs to post them up to me and rang CCCS to add the amounts to my DRO which kept we still well underthe £15,000 threshhold. After Christmas I contacted MMRC to see what was happening for the current year. She said that they would send out a tax code for this year but I would probably still have an underpayment at the end of the year, with it being so late in the tax year. She also would sort out a tax code for 2001/2012 using my current rate of Incapacity Benefit as aguide figure
What happened, and it was HMRC fault, was that although I have a pension which I receive monthly, I also receive Incapacity Benefit, suitably reduced due to my pension income, and the knew about this but had not sorted it ot before now
So I now have a 271L tax code to be applied to my pension payments due 9th Feb and 9th March and I am concerned about how much of the tax owing can be taken in any one month - we operate on a very restricted budget, with no spare monies, so such a reduction in my pension will be hard felt. We will, I hope, get an increase in our housing beneft and council tax to compensate, but this all takes time, duing which we will be short - so I need to know, prior to 9th Feb, how much I am going to get into my bank account, to make plansMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Left to them, I would have been sent a tax demand next year for the current year saying I owed about £735 which is why I, eventually, rang them to try to get it sorted before then, so we had a chance to pay it this year. As I said, if my pension income is reduced due to paying this tax, we will have to put in a change of circumstances form to council, and they will increase our housing benefit and council tax benefit to compensate
I knew I did not have to worry about the tax demands for the 2 previous years, as I could just add them to my DRO, and future years are OK as I will be able to give the correct figures to the council at the start of the year. Our problem will be how long the council take to adjust our HB & C/Tax B for this yearMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

3D, Martin has written about the tax mess, more HERE
Many thanks for that Marru - I did know he had written something but hadn't read it as I knew that I could get the 2008/09 and 2009/10 included in my DRO anyway, so that seemed the simplest thing to do. As it is, I could have appealed the 2008/09 demand on the basis that the revenue had made the mistake and not notified me within 12 months of tax year ending
However, with the current year, they are within time limits, though, as I am in financial difficulties and have very low income, I could apply to have it deferred or even written off. Any remaining tax outstanding for this year, will be added to my 2011/12 liabiliy and taken off in that year by means of an adjusted tax code
Anyway, I'll wait to hear from my sister tomorrow to see how much the can take in one month, and take it from thereMr 3Dogs 3-7-12
