  • NSD no 2 for me. I slightly understimated how little money I have to the end of the month so I am expecting to reach my target of 15 with ease as I think we will be living on bread and water till the end of the month:mad:

  • Just came on to report that yesterday and today were NOT NSDs. Yesterday I bought a train ticket and, um, a guitar. Today I bought my train ticket. I should be ashamed of myself.
    Thank you competition posters!

    Hello everyone!

Bella - welcome to the NSD thread, Mistress Spoon will no doubt add you to the front page and put you through the official initiation ceremony (something involving baked beans, wet kippers and custard, I seem to recall.....)

LFV - welcome back to the asylum! Sorry if life has been a bit carp lately, please feel free to have a good old whinge on here if you want to.

I am still stuck on 3 NSDs but my acute nose sniffs one hanging round sometime over the weekend.....

Decluttering - there are still plenty of days left in January to notch up an NSD or two. And if you don't, there is always the Punishment of the Wet Kipper to look forward to. (When I've finished with it, that is...)

    Hi all.
I'm new to the NSD Challenge..but it's going ok so far!

Just wanted to ask all those of you, with a few months'-worth of NSD experience.....

Have you noticed how much impact the NSD technique is having on your overall spending? Do you just squash all the spending into fewer days, but end up spending the same amount anyway??? Logic tells me that this must happen, but am hoping the reality is quite different!

If you have any thoughts, let me know, cos I need to keep motivated on this one!

    THANK YOU!

I tend to find that if i squash all of the planned spending into one day i do still spend the same amount, but what i don't do is make all the impulse buys. If i was to do one bit every day i would purchase at least one other thing that i thought i needed (or even make the trip because i thought i needed something when i didn't) & like Spoon said most of it would get thrown away.

For me it has always had to be about 1 grocery shop per week & that's it, as when i tried to curb my spending on junk i transferred it to food in the mistaken belief that was ok "because everyone has to eat!!!" (but definitely not the amount that i bought :D)

However when i was doing DIY shopping i set a budget on one day, which i counted as the spend day & allowed myself to do the shopping a bit every day (& call them NSD's) until it was done because so much of the stuff was just too awkward & heavy to carry in one go & because i knew that it wasn't a "trigger" spend for me i didn't buy one extra thing to what was on the list & so didn't feel that was cheating as no unnecessary spends or impulse buys were made, IYSWIM

But what it's really about is working out where you feel you need to cut back your spending & finding a set of rules that works for you, so your life carries on, just without opening your purse so much!!

Sorry essay over, but hope that helps!!

    :hello: Hellooooooooo. Remember me?

Have had some bad times in the past couple of months family wise (what more? I hear hardened NSDers cry) so took a breather from MSE. NSDs fell by the wayside and xmas was.......well.......it was 25th December really, nothing special.

So far 2011 has started in the same vein, have started my new job which is going well at the moment. The day before my gorgeous pet dobey was six she was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. Not sure how much longer she'll be with us :(. I know we had quite a few pets leave us last year, hoping mine won't be another quite yet.

Hope everyone is well but I'm sure I'll soon find out (these NSDers do like a natter).

Oh, and I'd better leave you with a target...........oh........I don't know.........oh why spoil a good thing? 18 again please Spoon.

    Laters......

    LFV, welcome back!!!
It's good to hear from you, but so sorry that things are carp for you at the moment, you know we're all here for you if you need an ear to bend or a shoulder to cry on!!

I didn't initially see a difference because I did just cram everything I thought I needed into fewer days, but as the others have said, over time, you think more about what you really need to buy vs think you need and that has deff made a difference. As BDINI also says, not spending every/most days has also helped cut down on the impulse buys and treats which is a positive on the old purse.

LFV - good to have you on board the good ship NSD again - sorry to hear things haven't got off to the best start for 2011 but if you need support or just a moan/vent, you know where we all are x

Nargle - I think the kippers were just for us who fell slightly off the NSD wagon last month - and I am sure I saw Igor doing something with them at the NYE bash...there were certainly some dodgy looking snacks on the buffet table :rotfl:

Jinty - great news about the sofa and an extra doggy treat for doglet (though perhaps have a word with him about the consequences of chewing the new one.....)

Well guys, its NSD #4 for me today :j As i mentioned earlier, i got the pjs I had been after :j but that was covered with money I had refunded from other Xmas gifts so doesn't count (esp as the other items I took back were pjs too) Will be spendy tomorrow as I MUST get my eyebrows done....I think I'm starting to look like Igor  oh, and need some bread too - we're down to one crust.
