I've been amused over the councils bin collection regime over the last few years here.

It started off that we had no bins given to us, and people moaned that others in the country got bins supplied.

So, we finally got wheelie bins supplied a few years ago.

"They are flying everywhere....they are too big....they roll over and people take mine" etc.

Anyway, move on a few years, people who were moaning about having to buy their own bins, are now moaning that the supplied bins are not good enough. Then, we hit the recycling phase. We get clear bags and green bags.

So, of course, the bags are wrong. Bins are forgotten, the bins now are the best thing since sliced bread and that's all people want....infact, they want more bins, as the bags are flying around, seaguls are getting into them etc.

So, more bins arrive, a green and brown wheely bin. Wrong. Too many bins now. Where am I going to put all these bins? They are too big. Suddenly, the old bag solution was miles better. Bins are awful.

So, the bins go. Councils listen, and a year later, along come the boxes. "BOXES" people said. Boxes are too small. They blow around, they have no lids. Awful, just bloody awful, what was wrong with the bins. Things get wet in these boxes. They need lids at least.

So, lids come for the boxes. "LIDS"!? What?!! Are you insane!? I now can't fit as much in the bins as I can't get the lid on if I pile too much in it. People are goign to by fly tipping with these small bins. I'm goign to fly tip. Yes, I'll fly tip, that'll show em.

I think every solution has now been exhausted, every want provided. Got boxes with nets now, elastic type nets....not good enough though, things get wet. Wrong wrong wrong. Councils are awful these days. They dream up these solutions (which the public have moaned and moaned for, but now conviniently ignore) and everything is wrong.

Latest has been "look, they got a new smaller lorry, absolute waste of money, my money, can't fit as much in it, have to do more trips, disgusting".

Obviously, they have forgotten the moaning they did about the big lorry causing damage in the narrow streets and causing havoc. Smaller lorry....bloody disgusting, not good enough.

Too funny but very true. :T

Sad to say, but looking at the PAYE tax I'll have to pay, plus the massive, massive cost of commuting, plus the loss of quality of life in commuting I just can't see any point of having a 'good job' in Britain any more if you are single without kiddies.

Not least that any pension pot will be stolen away by the boomers and I already go to back of the queue for NHS, dentist etc. as the 'needy' are priority

Reckon that come Apr 6th 2011 I'll be on min-wage warehouse stylee job I can walk to, be home by 5, maybe do 3 days a week but I can be quite happy on a net pay of maybe £12K topped up with income from investments.

Really, enough is enough and this is a game I no longer want to play to be robbed blind to pay JSA, CB, HB, IB, AA, CA claimants and God knows what else. Working 6 months of the year for other people, 12 hour days is a MASSIVE CON TRICK.

Quality of life is far more important overall than money, which consumes your health and time, away from family.

When your old, and looking back to memories, you wont remember the first nativity play, or the special bday parties or the first swimming lessons, first time they kicked a ball round, or first gf's first bfs.

You will be thinking about the business lunches and deals you made, that helped you miss everything important in life.

Im lucky enough, well i need to take some credit it was planned actually. I quit my job, when it took over my life, and had nothing. But it all worked out in the end, you just have to make a bold step to achieving what you need and what!

    Been here 6 years, nearly.

I work 9-5 on the dot give or take a min or two
Takes me 5 mins to drive in, or 30 mins to walk in (round a lake, very nice too)
I get all my lunch every day, to have lunch with co workers!
I am not overworked, and am never realistically asked to ever work unpaid overtime, will always get time off in leu.
I get to take kid to school for 8.40 and still get to work early.
I get to have evening meal with family everynight.

There are some employers out there that will look after you. I think ive got that employer.
I moved close to work, to make this the lifestyle of choice. I have now brought a house locally too. (glad to be out of birmingham to be honest).

If all goes according to plan, I can retire early... my choice! (15% employer contributions to thank for that)

Obviously, nothing is guaranteed for life... but I know what makes me happy now!
    Plan
    1) Get most competitive Lifetime Mortgage (Done)
    2) Make healthy savings, spend wisely (Doing)
    3) Ensure healthy pension fund - (Doing)
    4) Ensure house is nice, suitable, safe, and located - (Done)
    5) Keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained (Done, Doing, Going to do)

I actually have minimal issues with our local bin collecting stuff to be honest (am I the only one on the planet?). While I dislike the alternating weeks system whereby the entire street waits until the one guy who still has his calendar puts the right bin out and follows suit, as I don't like food waste and stuff sitting around for a fortnight - we have two bins, that's it... black one for normal bin stuff, green one for recyclable everything apart from glass (we had a glass bag but someone nicked it) and minimal effort required - I just have two bins in the kitchen and chuck stuff in the appropriate one. Much better than my old council who had Green, Brown, Blue and occasionally Black bins and you had to follow the calendar religiously (ours is just alternating weeks and very straightforward) about if it was a green, blue or both or none week. Not to mention that the terraced streets looked dreadful with nowhere to store these endless bits of plastic apart from on the main streets.

I got mildly annoyed when they pulled our proper-bin (as opposed to that waitrose shopping yoghurt-knitting whippersnapper of a recycling bin sat on our patio) over the snowfall period and didn't replace the collection (last year when they had to dot his they moved the whole schedule back a week so things weren't left hanging around for weeks on end) at all - meaning four weeks worth of whiff hanging around... but hopefully they learnt from that and we're not one of the councils on the news for Rubbish-Gate.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
