As a single man, I really can't see the point in 'white collar' work now

That's kind of why I don't bother. There's no "good jobs" for most of us these days. So many others getting top ups left right and centre and having fab lives. Makes you just want to stop bothering.

I've now achieved over 3 years of "pfffft". Long may it continue.

I think you missed the point there Pastures, he wrote

could almost be a Daily Mail headline having a go at the 'scroungers'.

Nah. never liked him, he's idle scum, lying idle scum. Let him find out the hard way. He's only really with her for the easy life, it's not his kid and now he gets to live in a great house and hardly has to work at all, whereas before he was working either long hours in cr4p jobs or on the dole and sleeping on his nan's sofa.

Life can seem be so unfair when you see someone getting just a little bit more for a little bit less effort.

Maybe they should follow the OP's example and look for cash in hand work. If you can't beat them join them eh?

The way the tories are talking Id be surprised if it stays this way for long.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
  • I feel your pain.
In the early 90's i was just starting out, on a wage that reflected i was just starting out in my chosen profession i was able to buy my first house, a three bedroom victorian.
I went on to buy "bigger and better", Huh!, after my divorce and losing a fortune to the ex (-: i would be quite happy to start out again in that same house i bought all those years ago. But even with a bigger wage, more skills i could probably only just do it now, do not let anyone tell you as a working lad that it is easier today, its not.

Only advice i could give you is stick to your guns and work and hold your head up high. I know a high moral stance does not improve your present situation, but i just cannot bring myself to believe that in the long run a hard working guy such as yourself(or me) will not come good, although that faith is being surely tested.

Sad to say, but looking at the PAYE tax I'll have to pay, plus the massive, massive cost of commuting, plus the loss of quality of life in commuting I just can't see any point of having a 'good job' in Britain any more if you are single without kiddies.

Not least that any pension pot will be stolen away by the boomers and I already go to back of the queue for NHS, dentist etc. as the 'needy' are priority

Reckon that come Apr 6th 2011 I'll be on min-wage warehouse stylee job I can walk to, be home by 5, maybe do 3 days a week but I can be quite happy on a net pay of maybe £12K topped up with income from investments.

Really, enough is enough and this is a game I no longer want to play to be robbed blind to pay JSA, CB, HB, IB, AA, CA claimants and God knows what else. Working 6 months of the year for other people, 12 hour days is a MASSIVE CON TRICK.

If you posted this in DT you'd get lynched by the lefties in there.

    I agree with you btw.

Just on this point, do you have any actual examples of being put to the 'back of the queue' for NHS treatment amcluesent? Who was given NHS treatment ahead of you and for what reason?

Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.
  • Well, there’s wage slave jobs and the dole and there's training and college and mid level and good jobs and expertise and experience and top jobs.

And there’s buying and selling products and services and setting up and running your own business and employing people and managing and delegating work to your workers and getting work done out of house by your friends’ companies.

Then there’s investment and owning property and equipment and renting and hiring it out to people and companies and then again there’s investment and speculation and spotting opportunities and gaps in the market and bargains and there’s copyright and licensing and manufacturing and distributing copies of your copyright material and that’s how you get rich and rise up above the usual nonsense and poverty.

So give it a go, give yourself a chance. Anyone with a modicum of motivation and entry level intellect can do well in the current capitalist meritocracy and you can too, if you put in the work and effort and are willing and able to listen and learn and want the rewards of your labour. So work hard, be choosy, channel your efforts and resources and do what I say above and you’ll be successful and you can be as rich and free as you want.

    Good luck.

Maybe he means that when you work and earn over a certain amount you lose out on the 'perks' of being on the dole/low wage such as free prescriptions, free access to certain services etc?
