As a single man, I really can't see the point in 'white collar' work now

Maybe he means that when you work and earn over a certain amount you lose out on the 'perks' of being on the dole/low wage such as free prescriptions, free access to certain services etc?
Yes, maybe you're right. I guess if I were being pedantic I'd suggest that this isn't being put at the back of the queue though.0 -

And there’s buying and selling products and services and setting up and running your own business and employing people and managing and delegating work to your workers and getting work done out of house by your friends’ companies.
Then there’s investment and owning property and equipment and renting and hiring it out to people and companies and then again there’s investment and speculation and spotting opportunities and gaps in the market and bargains and there’s copyright and licensing and manufacturing and distributing copies of your copyright material and that’s how you get rich and rise up above the usual nonsense and poverty.
So give it a go, give yourself a chance. Anyone with a modicum of motivation and entry level intellect can do well in the current capitalist meritocracy and you can too, if you put in the work and effort and are willing and able to listen and learn and want the rewards of your labour. So work hard, be choosy, channel your efforts and resources and do what I say above and you’ll be successful and you can be as rich and free as you want.
Good luck.
I did most of the above, as it existed "in my day", but now it's a different world and I'm geographically and chronologically challenged. How many times do you start again? At some point you're of an age where starting again can be seen as 'having failed at everything to this point' and they don't like your answers at interview. I've "started again" just about every year for the past 25 years.... it kind of gets wearing when the promises never materialise and you're back to starting again ... again.
I think you should employ me to transcribe your rantings - we could get them published.0 -
I think the best this is to plan a big Fraud/Robbery, if you get away with it your caked for life and if not you get sometime in an easy jail somewhere where on your release you get a fully furnished council flat and an easy life on benefits. I realise we are all geared to follow the system and work, mortgage etc but i sometimes wonder who is right, the givers in life ie tax payer etc or the takers??0

PasturesNew wrote: »And the time to access them. Doctors' surgery hours aren't easy for workers. It can be hard as you can't get a day off for a Doctor's appointment - and the Doctor systems make you jump through hoops. In the end, a lot of workers just only bother with Doctors if they think they're about to die.
This part our Drs has spot on - they actually offer advanced bookings and they run a late-night slot once a week till 8pm, and run till 6.30 a couple of other evenings... unlike my old doctors who seemingly ran a phone-in competition for appointments where you could never book in advance and they'd randomly change the time they opened the phonelines for appointments and only announce this by putting notices in the surgery up for a week - so if you weren't a regular you would never know. You HAD to take a day at work to take a shot at getting an appointment - their brains almost imploded if you told them, "look, I'm a primary teacher - I'd LOVE to be able to duck out of work for an hour to get in to see you but I think my 30 8 year olds might well have wrecked the place by the time I got back."
I get incredibly annoyed by a lot of it (I'll freely admit I'm angry and bitter these days and tend to stay in the house and keep me gob buttoned) when I watch my cousin deliberately have a child to maintain her benefits entitlement (they were really closing in on pushing her to actually get off her backside and get a job) and then ride along with help for vet fees for the animals she barely looks after, complain her council house isn't big enough for her and the like... yet we sit and scrape by watching my income dwindle to nothing, paying full whack for everything - oh and my stupid family freaking revere her as becoming awesome because she gave them a grandchild (she never paid her rent, got repeatedly evicted from places, bled my parents dry bailing her out, dolled off school completely for her final 3 years there)... and I'm the bad girl because I'm the one who can't carry a baby past 7 weeks.
Life's just one of those things that's desperately unfair - if you sit and dwell on it you can get eaten up by the injustice of it all - so I just keep the hell out of the way and get adored by a wonky moggy who at least appreciates my awesomeness. Hard work and doing the right thing aren't rewarded - hell, my family only appreciate the kids who reproduce and know how to make good cups of tea - and I think a lot of the world is running on those values these days.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

I agree with Cleaver. I'd be bored to tears in most kinds of minimum wage jobs. I'd rather do what I do.
OK, admittedly I only work 62.5% of full time. But believe me, I'm not dossing the rest of the time. Bringing up two hurting bereaved kids alone with no family near enough and/or well enough to help is more than I could manage if I worked 100% full time.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
as i have said before, i don't mind paying tax to help me ie the police, defence, street lights, hospitals etc - however, i object massively to paying tax to help out lazy scum who can't be bothered working.
i would pay more tax as long as i knew these scum bags were getting NOTHING. certain people need to start starving or working.0 -
certain people need to start starving or working.
Nah mate. Been tried before. Folks usually start thieving rather than meekly starve to death...It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
